Long story short:
I'm sitting here and my phone rings. On the other end, "Hi David, this is Alan Mulally."......
I've hung out at our fellow GT owner Jay Leno's shop on a couple of occasions whenever Camilo and I go out to L.A (Jay has some of his art in the garage), so upon hearing the news he was coming to Detroit for an auto-related show, I passed Leno's phone number on to a PR guy at Ford and suggested he should have Mulally call him to thank Jay on behalf of the company and its employees for being an ardent supporter of the domestic auto industry and the people of the area. The show is for unemployed people, and we've been laying off tens of thousands of auto-related people around here for what seems like forever. Glad to see Jay realizes these are real people and is bringing some stimulus for the soul to town.
Anyways, success! Alan said he called him and got through right away when he said who it was. Jay was very excited about coming to Detroit, and he was excited about Ford and all the new products and how the company was being run and working so hard to make it through the mess on its own. Mulally invited him to come out early and see all their new products and go to the test track and check out the local facilities, and Jay was enthusiastic about the idea. Hopefully he makes it around to some of the plants and brings some good cheer to metro Detroit. Leno even told him a story about how he used to be a lot boy at a Ford dealer that involved a slight mishap and a firing :lol
So Alan Mulally called me today to thank me for hooking him up with Jay Leno. Ha! Definitely a smile worthy anecdote to keep in the personal history! I'm definitely going to be watching the show to see if Leno mentions their conversation. :usa
