I would not have thunk it...

It was just the closest paint that matched the model it was on. The original color that the model (of a different unreleased car) was something from like a 1960's Mercury. Took it to the paint shop and something in the GM book was closest.

That folks, is a beautiful car. Great color(s), great application. Congrats.

Congratulations on a great buy. Enjoy - :thumbsup

Way to go Mike. Cool story.

Congratulations Mike, great purchase. I think Camilo also had another story about the color involving Carol Shelby. I think somehow they conspired on the color. That adds a bit of interesting legacy to the car.

A GM color? Hmmm...Maybe that's why Rich wouldn't give me the paint codes. LOL. Thanks to all. None of it would have happened without going to the Rally. What a great experience it was for my wife, brother and I. My brother was one of the DE drivers so he got a chance to wring my GT out and loved it. I can't wait for Rally 8. I can only hope Camilo doesn't have his new project up for sale. The people and this forum just flat amazes me and I am proud to be a part of it. Now...I will have to work on getting my "handle" changed because just having my name isn't good enough. :)

What a great purchase and a one of a kind experience that goes along with it. Good for you.

Mike, just flipping through some old posts. I see that DBK had valued the car at 2-3 MILLION dollars!!!!! Wow, that's more than Sonic Blue.... :lol:wink

"It's also part of Ford GT history because it's been in pictures and people have talked about it on this forum, and therefore, it is worth at least $2-3 million dollars. It's even been pulled over with 3 people in it. Living the dream! If anyone is interested, send smoke signals. Cash only. " :biggrin

All kidding aside, congrats again for picking up one very cool ride. :thumbsup

Man I hope my wife doesn't read your post till after NY Superfly!

Mike, you make be lucky, I think that there is a very close match on a Lincoln paint from the 90's.

Save you from the dark side (GM). :biggrin

And a few from the day we picked it up. We flew out to Baltimore, tried to convince the owner we weren't there to steal the car while we waited for the wire transfer to show up, and then drove the car back. The owner was a really nice guy, had lots of old motorcycles. The GT was up on the lift and I swear, despite the fact the car had 2,000 miles or so, if you had asked, I would have said it had never left the garage. It was in exceptional condition. Hung out at the bar, money showed up, off we went back to Detroit.

Mike,

If you get a gang together to see your cars, let me know and we will come down.

Let me get past Mardi Gras and I'll see what I can come up with. :)
