I know that this has been addressed in the past, but is there a current estimate of the cars remaining (salvage title cars excluded) from the original production run?
Best,
Mark

Less and less As every day passes........

my guess is 2500 0r so .The Gt guys would have a better idea

I would think in that range, with a few hundred being salvage/ rebuilt title...and this MOFO is so bad there will be many more destroyed over time! LOL

Might be an interesting project for someone.

All the VINs are known. A cross check between Oasis and CarFax might be interesting

It would take someone with access to these tool
And the ability to automate the process.

Could also possibly get average miles of the fleet etc ..

Is that in the US or world wide?

Why not ask the NSA? Now that they aren't going to be monitoring every phone call every day, perhaps they are looking for a worthwhile project.

There are firms that track all ebay data...including VIN

You can buy data on transactions by type, $, zip, etc

I looked into when I was looking at a startup that was going to insure any transaction on ebay for 1 cent;
went all the way to Kleiner Perkins

I think there are far more cars remaining than many believe. I would be surprised if more than several hundred were written off. We would see many more hard parts for sale if the number of totaled cars approached the figures tossed around.

Agreed...at no point were these cars just tossed away when written off. And with the current upswing in value you would see parts showing up everywhere.

I am with this man. Rich and I have discussed this many times and arrived at the same conclusion. He and Dennis would be particularly knowledgable given the large number of cars they have repaired/quoted for insurance jobs.

It's funny to watch the fish get thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big as time goes on. "Ah yes, 2,000 of them have been wrecked, and wouldn't you know I just happen to have a couple examples of this endangered species sitting in my garage, awaiting their sale date!" :lol

The fact is, a huge number of these cars have barely left the garage. They are still rare, but they aren't unicorns.

I would guess more than 3000 world wide are still out there in garages, storage facilities & on the road.

Have anyone ever worked out how many are owned by people on the Forum?

I would venture in another direction on this speculation.

Just a guess...less than 100 have been wrecked/burned/etc and were not repairable.

Just a guess…less than 30 were converted to out and out race cars.

That leaves +- 3800 --unsold - on the road - in garages - in collections.

Based on the math of who is registered as a GT owner (~1,400 users), wouldn't be surprised if it's around 2000. While there are a bunch of two car owners, there are also a number of 3-4-5-6 car owners. And at least one that owns double digits.

Just to relate numbers to our Ford GT topic, I have this data of total # of Porsche 996 Turbo Coupes (no cabs) sold in U.S. by PCNA:
Makes me realize Ford built a lot of cars in a very small time frame. Taking into consideration that probably it was never meant to be a mass produced automobile. Again, this data is Porsche 911 Turbo sold in US alone.

6,604 Turbo Coupes

2001 Coupe: 2,418
2002 Coupe: 2,318
2003 Coupe: 1,384
2004 Coupe: 298
2005 Coupe: 186

I always thought it was around 300-500 that had major damage with some put back on the road & some gone forever.

I was thinking maybe 200-250 to never be seen again.
Obviously that's pure speculation, but 250 is still a lot of cars.

How many were modified into race cars?

In my opinion the Shelby registry would be the most appropriate keeper of Ford GT provenance.
