Like much of America I was hoping there was a way both teams could lose, so it's not like I was invested in the outcome, yet I was still staring at the ceiling at 4 AM asking myself "Why would they throw the ball? I don't understand. Why? Why throw the ball?" :lol

Kudos Carroll, on a job....done.

And if that play had worked ….."we just saw the gustiest call in SB history" .

SOME would likely have said that....but, regardless, it STILL would have been a stupid call....and I'd still have been hot under the collar over the fact it had been called...'just not quite as "hot" as I am now... :bang

Yes, even if they won with it, it was incredibly dumb. 4th down desperation - maybe, but...

Wonder what Belichick thought about that call versus his failure to call timeout?

Carroll said he "thought it was a good call"! In what universe?

Does anyone know who actually made the call? Was it Carroll, or the Offensive ( apt title ) Co-ordinator?

Perhaps Patriots hacked into Seattle's communication network, and Robert Kraft made the call.

Karma...

Dallas win over Detroit on a bogus non-interference call...

Green Bay win over Dallas on bogus not-a catch call...

Seattle win over Green Bay with 4th quarter miracle

Patriots win over Seattle on "miraculous" (or dumb-ass) last second play call.

"My" teams lost more than they won in this but it sure was entertaining to watch, discuss and debate!

Let me wax a moment. Russell is is 100 times more special than he appears.

When his dad worked for me he was a former Dartmouth player, cut by the Chargers. He was hopelessly diabetic. Once when Russell was 13 his dad had a seizure driving Russell to an AAU baseball game . Russell took control of the car and miraculously stopped it.

His dad died his junior year at NCState. I would visit him at the hospital. One thing after another amputations etc. Because of his size and the need for a family paycheck, he tried baseball but it wasn't to be. Luckily he found the right spot at Seattle.

He won a Super Bowl playing for peanuts. He should have won a second. But at least now financially he will get what he has long deserved, what a wonderful kid

Michael Strahan brought that up this morning. 'Said different teams have different 'chains of command' for play calling and he had no idea who might have madethat particular call...but that Carroll was plugged into everybody via his headphones regardless, so... (I highly doubt Wilson did...[called the play])

Strahan also said that call would go down in NFL history as the dumbest ever made. 'Couldn't agree more.

(I can't recall any I've ever witnessed that were worse, I know that.)

Carroll has always been a defensive minded coach. At SC he called the defense and was in the loop but very hands off play calling on the offensive side. I doubt he has changed, his OC Bevell made the call I'd wager. No way Wilson made the call on his own, it wasn't a hot read either. It was called from the box or sideline.
That said the Pats RB Shane Vereen is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. I'm very happy for him but still dislike the Pats!

Well, now we know how you really feel, gotta admit however, that was one lucky floor bounce and one athletic juggle until caught, and then,..., well you know. For me it was (and still is) all about Montana and Rice, no one can do what they did coming back from behind so many times with so little time left.

:agree:, but they also had help from John Taylor, Brent Jones and Roger Craig.

Not sure of the author but this is pretty on for topic

Hi I'm Rob Lowe and I have Direct TV.

And I'm incredibly stupid Rob Lowe and I call a pass play when I have the most powerful running back in the NFL one yard away from winning the Super Bowl for me, and I have cable. (Hey, Pete. Don't be THIS Rob Lowe!)

I wasn't even going to watch the game because I was still sick over the Packers loss. But I did and it was a jaw dropper and I knew exactly how the Seahawks fans feel. Somehow I feel better, maybe misery does love company. Maybe it's because I can imagine losing the Super Bowl was comparatively worse and at least Packer fans didn't experience that. But wow

Pete Carroll. Hmmm. Was he not the coach at USC and in the National Championship game with a 4th and 1 and the Heisman Trophy winner as his running back, kept Reggie Bush on the sideline. They failed to get the 1st down and keep Vince Young and the Longhorns offense off the field. The Longhorns went down the field and won a very exciting (for Texas fans, which I am not) National Championship!!

Pete Carroll....been there, done that!
