I used a glue trap for a rat, but it was too strong and got away! I next got a electric rat trap. Put some peanut butter bait in it. Volia, the next day an electricuted rat!

I am not recommending this vendor, it is just the 1st link I found to show you what it is.

Best rat trap

Once a year I spend a few days chasing California quail in the hills near Kelso Valley in central California. We stay in a cabin that's over 100 years old and has no electricity or running water. The cabin is unoccupied many months of the year. Rats chew their way into the cabin and destroy everything in sight. Regular rat traps would kill the first few intruders but were then disabled until the carcasses of their former victims had been removed and the trap reset. The cabins owner built three of the most ingenious perpetual rat killing machines that continue to exterminate the little beasts for months on end. He purchased a number of 5 gallon plastic buckets at Home Depot, drilled two holes near the top opening of the bucket so that a coat hanger wire could be stretched across the center of the top opening. A small hole was punched through both ends of an empty tin can and the wire passed through the two holes so that the tin can would spin freely like a rolling pin. The coathanger wire was bent so that the can would stay in the middle of the bucket opening. The last part of the trap consisted of a 3 foot long section of 2 x 4. The 5 gallon bucket is filled halfway up with water, the tin can is smeared with peanut butter, and the 2 x 4 is set against the bucket to act as a ramp up to the top. Rats would run up the 2 x 4 to get to the peanut butter which must smell pretty good to a rat. Standing on the edge of the 5 gallon bucket they would make the easy leap to the tin can that would spin as soon as their body hit it dumping them into the water in the bucket. Evidently the sides of a 5 gallon plastic bucket do not offer enough traction to allow a rat to crawl out so they swim until they run out of energy and then expire. The only down side to this trap is the sight of a dozen dead rats floating in the water when you show up at the cabin. :eek But it does appear that the first thing a rat will head for when it invades a dwelling, is peanut butter. With those traps in the cabin not much else seems to get touched. :thumbsup

Yes, hardly seems worthwhile removing and replacing the windshield just to replace a gasket with such minor (cosmetic) damage. I would get a small tube of black RTV silicone sealer. Carefully mask triple thick the "line" originally created by the gasket. Squeeze a small amount of the black silicone into the void. Smooth out with your index finger ONCE as screwing with it will only make a mess. Let it cure over night, then carefully remove the tape after dressing the edge with a new single edge razor blade to prevent the tape from pulling out the patch. I doubt anyone but you will ever notice the fix. If you are not too good with things like this, a glass shop could do it for you at a small cost I would guess.

If the look bothers you AFTER you try this, then I would go for the windshield R&R and a new gasket, however even though this can be done without removing the front fenders (as Ford recommends) it is still a major job and there's always the chance something else gets damaged during the process.

Good luck. usmcfred

I think that is the right idea USMCFred

I don't care for rodents and, after seeing the damage to one of our gangs GT they must all DIE DIE DIE. However, it must be pretty horrific if you're Roland Rat out on a sortie - you end up in a black bucket full of rat corpses floating about. It's like a horror film!

Oh well, kill them all!!

Glad to read that the strip can be replaced easily.

I have an electronic pest scare thing in my garage - it gives out some sort of permanent hum that insects and rats don't like. Seems to work....

bubbles and covers don't stop mice

I had a similar experience in my Ferrari. I brought it in for service and they noticed insulation in the trunk area. They trapped mama and babies while they had it. Your intruders can still be in there. Look for other signs. Bait stations seem to work. I have a pest service in a country home just for that reason. Another option is an air chamber. Go to www.copperstarproducts.com. You can get indoor or outdoor protection at a reasonable cost.

A friend had his Diablo under a cover and in a bubble. The mice chewed there way in and got into the wiring harness. First he knew of the problem the car just went electric dead on a railroad crossing. When towed for service a nest was found in the area of the small electric fire in the main wiring harness. :frown :ack Get an exterminator and have the car checked out. :eek

mouse damage

Hello to N.J.! So sorry to see what happened to your G T I would say first off are you insured against rodent damage?Second question is could there be any other damage? If you read the shop manual,it says the front fenders must be removed to replace the windshield..and I think if you check with a Ford dealer,a windshield is over $1,000 This is really no fun, especially if it is an encapsulated molding ---supplied on the glass and not available seperately. It is really a good brain teaser.I think i would let a very experienced glass specialist look at it,and get their opnion. If anyone has had any experience with removal, please post here,I think this could be done without removeing the fenders if you have the right tools.Good Luck and please keep us posted.

Man I would just take and mark a line like a half moon as close too, and as far up and down as you have to on the bite marks to make a clean cut with a razor blade and then measure and do it to other side and most people will think its factory. You could take an old credit card and cut out a template and then hold over the rubber and cut it. That should give it a good clean look that at least will look alot better than those teeth marks. Thats if the black silicone trick doesn't work which it might.
