Cue the sad trombone!

http://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/imsa-makes-gtlm-gtd-bop-changes-ahead-of-ctmp/

In an unprecedented move, the sanctioning body has issued BoP changes past its seven-day pre-event deadline given to teams, in the wake of “extraordinary circumstances” based from last weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The biggest change has come with the Ford GTs, which have been given a 15kg weight increase and boost reduction, following a dominant 1-2 finish at The Glen.

Both the Porsche 911 RSR and Corvette C7.R, meanwhile, have been handed 10kg weight breaks, with the Corvette also getting a 0.4mm larger air restrictor and revised declared minimum lambda.

Fuel capacities in GTLM have also been adjusted, with the Corvette getting two additional liters, a one-liter increase for the Ferrari 488 GTE and two-liter reduction for the Ford.

Next week will be interesting. Makes the story better though. The GT was beating ass so bad we had to break our own rules to make things closer. :lol

Extraordinary car. "Race car for the street" won't be hyperbole with this one.

Meh, I'm ok with it, as long as the pendulum doesn't swing too far the other way. We'll see next week. GT class racing isn't an endless budget free for all, and the reality is that without BoP, GTLM would empty out in a hurry.

One look at this pic tells you all you need to know about why the GT has been beating up these porkers.

Can they eventually just outlaw the Ford GT? I mean the car is so far advanced over the other cars. In the old days that just meant the other cars had to be updated & modified to beat the Ford GT. Today it is - let's slow the advanced car to the point where the dinosaurs can compete. LOL

Ford had them covered all along, superior aerodynamics, great preparation and a wonderful power plant. It will take more weight and boost reductions than that to keep the Ford GT off future podiums.

Remember that the 7 liter V8 was banned after the Gurney/Foyt win in 1967. Unlike 1968 when an entire, essential component of the GT40 was banned, race organizers will simply choke the new GT via weight increases, boost reduction, etc. until they are satisfied there is sufficient parity. So no, the GT won't be banned.

Ford has already established the racing reputation of the new GT. Poor finishes going forward will probably be perceived by the public as the result of punitive BoP adjustments. It's a win-win for Ford.

Dave I understand your point and we will see what this week brings. It has been a great couple races seeing dominant performances after all the smack talk from the completion and from a few "other GT owners" about the new GT and Ford's commitment to this program.

Predictable knee jerk reaction. What will they do if the GT continues to win? This is a purpose built racecar made just for that. There is nothing soft or comfortable about it unlike the others in GTLM class. Hoping the GT's beats the tires off them anyways. I guess the organizers have to let the other manufacturers puff their chest out after all that crying. Haha!

Actually, it's a huge compliment to Ford and the Ford GT. They developed such a bad ass car that the BoP has to tie both hands and one leg behind our back, in order to help the others compete! Let that be the story that is told!

Really... no incentive for the other cars to up the ante. I understand they want the races to be close but this BoP is really holding the sport and technology back.

Off the point, but did anyone notice the sparse crowd at the Glen?

Turn one grandstand, usually a premium spot with plenty of action, had about 20 people in it! Much worse than Nascar's attendance nosedive.

Is this series going to be viable moving forward?

Everyone is in the infield. Stands were empty but infield was pretty full. Lots of camping. Corvette corral was sold out.

The incentive for the other cars to change is getting beat every time. Even with the BOP changes the GT is a better car with a company committed 110% to win. The other companies will need to get a better car & be committed 111%!
