I have 650 lb/in front coilovers (rear leaf packs) on my 5,500 lb fully off-road armored and lifted Nissan Xterra and the ride is stiff. lol.

I have a 2500 lb car with 750 front 650 rear springs on Penske shocks, and the ride is surprisingly not as stiff as you would think.

Have not been around in a while –Sorry

If you buy them from Alex he has already done the work for you.

These are race shocks so as Ed said they need more maintanance than OEM.

Speaking of shock absorber care and feeding.
There are advantages to having rebuild-able shock absorbers.
One of them is the ability to tune them up. And make them as good / or even better than new.
Un-like factory stuff. That just slowly fades away.

I just did the first tune-up on a Penske FGT single adjustable.
Rocketman runs his car hard enough to require the first overhaul.
My Dyno data shows I built them for Ron on 4-8-2008.
Hoping the Rocket will chime in and tell us the number of track events he has ran.
So we all can judge tune-up time.
We know He likes to push the limit a bit.

When I had SRD rebuild my Penskes 3 shocks had almost no fluid left in them! That was 4 years of track & road use. SRD will be converting my Penskes from o-ring to seals at the next rebuild in 1 year. I recommend a 1-2 year minimum rebuild on the Penskes. Or get Ohlins or Motons since they use seals.

Ed

PS Shadowman R&R shocks, SRD rebuild!

Ed

I have some quad-ring seals. That fit in the Penske.
Send me a note- and I will drop them in the mail. If you would like to try them?

I would not be so sure those other Racing Shock Brands do not also use An O-ring to seal the shaft.

And I would take a first-hand look before buying (Don’t trust just any salesman)

I test and build more than a few shocks.
Performance shock guys are targeting low “shaft seal drag” designs
As a minor compromise in this area has effect on overall damper tuning range.

I have a group of shaft bearing seals on hand from Penske, Ohlins, Bilstein. And Fox.
And they all have a well-designed O-ring seal.
Penske is the only one that is Viton material .
The way I look at it. You should change the shock oil. When it becomes worn.
And I have never seen a Penske shock seal leaking nice clean, fresh oil.
When I get them they were used hard. And covered in tire rubber. Oils past due for a change.

I have at least 20 track days on them ! Lots of thrill rides at rallies!
I really enjoy them .They can be any where in between full race for the track or comfy soft for the street.

Just for fun Rocketman.
Have you ever burned more than one tank of fuel at a track day?

Or had to go straight to fill up. Just to get back to the hotel?

At rallies I generally use 3-4 tank fills
