Ford GT Floor Jack Applicability

almost as heavy as my ex-girlfriend!

I don't know if it's heft makes it necessarily "better" ...but, I can tell yuh it IS heavy!!!!!:lol
'Darn thing is not 'easily' manhandled, but it's not unmanageable. 'Just kinda awkward.
It probably has to be heavy due to the huge mechanical ratios involved. The stresses in certain areas have got to be very high. Looks like it's almost as heavy as my ex-girlfriend!

Heh analog neighbor....gives new meaning to "Jack MeHoff" :lol :cheers :thumbsup

Oh, don't get me started on fat jokes!

'Just had a "Yo Mamma" duel with ol' George Wallace at the Flamingo on that very subject (as it concerned "his Mamma"!):lol

Yo Mamma

Yo Mamma so big I could drive my GT into her and not scratch it! :lol

YO mamma so fat if yuh tried to walk around her, you'd need GPS and a passport to get 'er dunn.:eek

All:
'Just rec'd my 2-1/2" high 'jack from www.tooltopia.com. On the operating instructions manual it says it's an "OMEGA", but it's model # is 29023 ... which I THINK is exactly the model number mentioned in a post above under "Shinsu Industries, or whatever the heck it was. Anyway - 'pbly the exact same jack.
ToolTopia gets $200.99 for it - FREIGHT INCL in the cont. U.S.!!
'Haven't tried to lift my GT with it yet because I had to wait 2C what size the lifting pad was on it B4 I ordered lifting pads from Jay @ GtSaver (4" I.D. on that pad as it turns out). BUT, I did slide the puppy under my GT, and it's a PIECE OF CAKE!!!!! TONS of clearance.
'Has a nice rubber(?) "sleeve" around it's jacking handle so that if you screw up & bang the handle against your car you'll pbly not cause any damage. (FYI: if you order wunna these, there may be a loose "bolt" laying in the box rattling around somewere. THAT is for securing the jack handle TO the jack itself so you can pull the jack around w/o the handle pulling out of it's "socket". Your's may come with that bolt partly screwed into it's proper hole ... but, mine had fallen out. You'll see what I mean if you get one.) (Oh. And the "vent screw" they refer to in the "destructions" is under the flat, black plate on the TOP of the jack body. They don't tell yuh or SHOW yuh where 'tis ... they just say "locate" it ['bozos]. 'Plate just "pops" right off. )

E.P.

Thanks EP. I just ordered one. It should be a big help around the house. I think it should work lifting fat drunk friends off the floor.:cheers

Thanks of the boquet, Jay ... would you believe Mr. Wallace actually asked me to write out all the "Yo Mama's" I used "against" him that nite so HE could use 'em? I couldn't believe it. So, I did just THAT and handed them to him the following nite.

He and I have a "Yo Mama" duel during his show every time my wife & I go down to 'Vegas now. It's gotten to the point where he refers to me (on stage) as , "...that smart ass white boy". :lol

Mr. Wallace is a GREAT human being. Really. He's a LOT of fun. I love that guy.

A person just owes it to himself to go see ol' George's show when in 'Vegas. It'll be the best 1-1/2 hrs of comedy entertainment you'll ever experience in that town. You can take that to the bank.

GT up in the air with a jack

Ok, it was asked a while back but there was no answer - once you jack up the car under one jacking point where do you put the jack stand? Other than a lift how do you get the GT up in the air to pull all 4 wheels at the same time? It says not to use the control arms to jack up the car but how about using the control arms for the jack stands? I used to do it on my past cars with no problem. Thanks all!

Ed

The front has two jacking points, but only one on the rear. When the GT Guys worked on my car they jacked it up on under the rocker panel without any damage. The point is somewhere below the window separating the engine from the passenger compartment. There is a frame bulkhead that ties into that point. I am reluctant to use that point until I get the belly pans off to see exactly where the location is.

You could try lifting from the rocker panel, that takes the whole side of the car up. Then put jack stands under the offical jacking points. Then lift the other side and repeat. It should work, but I don't guarantee it. Try at your own risk.

I plan to get a lift to avoid all of the risk in jacking the GT. I the question is do I get two rolling jacks or just one. The same problem exist on a 4 post lift. Jack up on back or front, where do you put the jack stands so you can move the jack to the other side.

Ed,

I will look into this, perhaps this weekend. Jay

'Control arms are a no no!!!!!!! (For lifting or for jack stands.)

As to your OTHER question - I've wondered about that too because you HAVE the "lifting holes" already filled by the jack or a 'hoist!

I've designed a "bar" out of sq. tubing that spans between either the two REAR, or the two FRONT lift points so that a floor jack can be placed at the center of this 'bar" and the floor jack can then lift BOTH sides at once. (Each end of the bar has pads to insert into the chassis' lifting holes.) Jack stands can then be put under either END of said bar ...and the floor jack removed.

EP, that's great!

Here is a little snip:
George’s most recognized material is his “Yo Mama” and “I Be Thinkin” jokes, which encourage audience participation. Every show George selects a few people out of the crowd to go one on one in a comical banter. George shows his gratitude to his audience by signing autographs and taking photos after every show.

Ya, he REALLY has a lotta fun with this segment, Jay. He LOVES IT when somebody will challenge him in this area (since he's the originator of the whole "Yo Mama" thing.) You can just see his eyes light up like two tin outhouses in the fog when it happens!

The guy's a real hoot!

When I was hitting him with one "Yo Mama" after another, he put on a kinda "stunned" (for effect!) expression ... sorta stutter stepped to the podium he has on stage (to store props, etc.) ...'grabbed a pen & paper and said to the audience, "I'm writin' summa THIS s**t DOWN!" - which cracked the place up! Where upon he followed that up with, "This smart ass white boy is pretty good, izzunt he! I think he just whopped my ass!" And the audience cracked up again!

'Coarse, I hadn't done anything of the sort. If George had wanted to, he could have EASILY carved me ham from bacon in that segment. HE'S THE MASTER OF THOSE JOKES. But, that was very generous of him to say.

You REALLY gotta see that man's show. He's just a riot!

If you lift the car with one floor jack dosen't it raise the whole side of the car enough to change the wheels on that side?.

I saw one guy at the track that was changing the wheels. I did not look real close, but it looked like he had just one alum jack and had driven on a homemade wood ramp about 3" tall. I would think the chassis is that stiff.

I would hate to try and lug one of those huge jacks around at the track.

I use Race Ramps when lifting one entire end of the car. For lifting one side of the car, a single floor jack at the bulk head works great;

In that pic what area is the jack resting on?.

I see a bit of a seam right about that area. How are you preventing it from damaging the two panels that meet right there, r are they stronger than they look?

Looking under the car you will see a "line" of bolts securing the belly pans - these are on a frame crossmember. You want the jack to sit close to where the lateral cross member contacts the longitudinal frame member. You don't have to remove the belly pans to avoid damaging them - I use a hockey puck on top of the jack pad - it won't dent or damage the car. You can also use a small wood block. Someone posted this info here some time ago - sorry I don't recall who, but after reading their original post I have since done this several times. Hope this helps.

Has anyone ever seen neoprene or fabric covers for the wheels of their floor jack? Mine is scratching up my floor bad. Rubber cover covers that stretch over the wheels would work perfectly.

center lift point for GTs

The center lift point for the GT is the junction of the firewall & rear frame rails. If you look at the seam of the panels on the firewall (under the car) about 12" inboard is an exposed black metal area of appoximatley 2x3". There is an exposed weld seam on that area. This is the junction. I just use the rubber pad that came with the low height/long reach jack mentioned in this thread. You can actually use any where along that panel seam as a jacking point.

Once I get both wheels off the ground I place a jack stand ( I use those generic aluminum ones that everyone sells nowadays ) under the jacking points mentioned in this forum. I don't use pads or wood.
