I'm posting this on behalf of Fyr-ftr-GT.

I recently had Don Warren, at Safecraft in Concord, CA, design me a fire suppression system for the engine compartment in my GT. We used a 3 lb bottle of Halon 1211 that I mounted to the Cooltech transaxle cooler bracket. We used stainless braided hose up to a stainless T, and then more braided stainless around to the other side of the engine. The two red nozzles on either side of the engine are directed at the fuel rails. They provide fire protection when no one is around the vehicle. The bulbs in the nozzles will go off at 360 degrees. The brackets that hold the nozzles are made of Delron, and use a pinch fit on the square tube. I did not have to drill any holes on my car, except for the two into the Cooltech bracket. The entire system can be charged and then applied to the car. Safecraft designs these systems for most of the NASCAR teams, and supplies many military applications.

Don said this system is $550 for one, or slightly less with multiple orders. His number is 800 400-2259. I told Don that I would let the other GT owners know about this. I have no monetary involvment. Just trying to payback for the great info I have received on this forum.

I will take one if he can install it at the Rally at night during one of the events. Or if The GT Guys can do the install, that would work for me. I am hoping they can install the vacum - bopst guage as well.

Maybe for those who want it, there could be some sort of CoolTech Transcooler/fire suppression system combo installation deal.

Kendall?

Bony
There are sensors in the ejectors that automatically set off the extinguishing agent. They use the 360 degree bulbs, which means that if they sense 360 degrees F, they go off. The GTGuys in Placerville saw this installation and said they possibly could do the install.

Being a firefighter for 30 plus years, and having been out on hundreds of car fires, I wanted some protection for engine fire when I was not around. That's when most car fires start; after you park, and leave your car. The installation was pretty straightforward and clean, and it was something I could live with on my GT. Mr. Warren of Safecraft told me that there was no upkeep on this system except to look at the gauge on the bottle once in a while, and should last 12 to 15 years without any maintenance. Meaning that this Halon should not leak unless the connections are disturbed, (untightened).

Tires

Noticed the tires in your post. How is the manufacture??

My tires are the Hoosiers. They are much softer than the Goodyears, and stick better. The grooves are hand cut into them.

I did not have to drill any holes on my car, except for the two into the Cooltech bracket.

There's just no respect.....:bored

You just have to make the two holes standard equipment. You could tout it as a selling point. "Pre-drilled for the Safecraft fire suppression system!!"

Are the GT Guys gonna be at Indy?

But Kendal, I did use button head, Allen stainless bolts to do the attachment. And I painted the bottle bracket to match your bracket. It looks like a perfect match. Besides, I saw the Ford transaxle cooler bracket, and I believe yours looks better, and it allows more room to mount a fire bottle.

Please forgive my awkward sense of humor.....

I am proud to see pics of the Cool Tech Trans Cooler kit - anytime. I also thing you can just about lift the car with the bracket so I think it is an ideal place to mount add'l equipment. I'd drill the aftermarket stuff in a heartbeat before drilling the car!!!!!!!

If anyone is interested in doing this and wants me to pre-modify the Trans Cooler bracket just let me know.

Would it also be possible to add driver compartment protection?

I met with Gary in Suisun when I was in NorCA en route to the GTGuys session at Shadowmans.

The Heritage looked incredible.

I was really impressed with the installation quality of his system, it looked absolutely first rate.

Equally impressive were the hand grooved Hoosiers. They make the stock F1's look like a set of rental car radials.

Very Very Nice Set-Up Guy's !!!!!

Looks good, I have THE FORD RACING cooler installed, ordered before Kendall's became available. Will I have a fit issue? Hope that someone can install it at the Rally or even at Indy?

Daniel,

When I was at Shadowmans I looked at his setup, and I think he had the Ford cooler. There does look like there is room to fit the 3 lb bottle in the same spot I put mine. The bracket attachment may have to be a little different though.

I don't have any pictures, but I seem to recall the bottle may have been in a slightly different location, but same general area on Shadowman's GT. The Ford Cooler itself seemed to be completely parallel to the side vent inlet, and also more toward the front of the car, than Kendall's cooler.

In any event, Shadowman made it work. Perhaps he will add some input. I am quite sure he had the Ford cooler with the hard lines.

I think the Cool Tech transaxle cooler is a mandatory pre-requisite :thumbsup

Didn't we already establish that drilling any Ford parts was strictly taboo:willy

engine compartment fire suppression system

If that is the Safecraft Model AT fire suppression system then the sensors are for 286 degrees according to Safecraft's website. http://safecraft.com I would feel better with a 10 lb bottle as most racers do.

Ed

P.S. I'm making do with a hand held 2.5 lb Safecraft & a full bladder!

A full bladder may even autonomously release faster than the 286 degree sensor, when you see flames inside the cabin.

Always good to have redundant and separate systems Ed.

Fyr-FtrGT,

Can I trouble you for a quick measurement? A couple of owners have asked me about obtaining a Transaxle Cooler Kit with the bracket pre-drilled for the Fire supression bottle. Can you please tell me the location and hole size of the bottle attach points. I would appreciate it.
