Many of you have meet my dad at either forum dinners, SEMA show, Mojave Mile, GT Guys coming to Maryland, or Rally VII so I decided to post this story. Ever since the Carlisle event that we attended a couple of years back that had the Starliner club attending my dad has been talking about a 1961 Ford Starliner Hipo car that he had when he first got married. It was at that point I decided to find this car for him but little did I know that these cars are next to impossible to find in their regular 390 Z code configuration so finding the Hipo version would take a miracle. I traveled throughout the US this year looking for an Z code car (knowing that finding a Hipo was out of the question) that would be good enough to purchase as a gift but every car I looked at didn't come close to meeting my expectations until one night I ran across a google ad that was about 4 years old on a Z code "Hipo car" so I decided to take a chance the next morning and make the phone call. When I contacted the owner the next morning he was in shock that I was calling about an ad that was 4 years old and I was in total shock that the car was still available. I set up a flight and inspected the car.... Well the rest is history and we presented the car to him this morning on his 70th birthday. He has been my hero forever and I know those of you who have meet him would agree that he is one hell of a guy and very deserving.

Way to go! What a great way to honor your Dad on a milestone Birthday!

awesome!

I enjoyed meeting your dad. He too is lucky - you are a great son to track it down

What a great story John. Thanks for sharing. Your father defines what being a true gentleman means and Summer and I were so glad we had the opportunity to share time with you both in Mojave. We look forward to seeing you guys in the future. Please pass on our wishes for many more happy and healthy birthdays to your father.

Pe2unia, weren't we twins separated at birth? My birthday is july 23rd. I'd really like a 1961 Studebaker Lark in RED.

Wonderful gesture and a great car too!

Apple doesn't fall far from the tree..... Nice work ;)

Fantastic John! Thank you for sharing that. It warmed my heart on a cold day. :) I had the privilege of meeting your dad and chatting with him at the Rally dinner. Just one of so many reasons why the Rally was such a special event.

Frank I think we do look a little like brothers...........but the Studebaker would have to be Yellow or Black:rofl
