Delamination of Window Trim

We've got a few GTs here right now and we have noticed that the small 1.5" wide vertical strip that divides the side widow between the roll-down part and the stationary triangle is delaminating. On one car, you can actually see daylight between the "bowed out" piece and the part remaining on the car. Some cars are worse than others.

Anyone else notice this? Has anybody done anything to resolve it?

(Take a look at your car and you may have this condition too.)

I don't have any photos, but Shadoman tells me he has repaired many and replaced a few; only those not caught in time to be repaired.

Yikes, the part is about 2K + labor.

That $2K + Labor is his price, correct? Not an average price I'm assuming :)

I imagine that it could be fixed with the proper adhesive - well before venturing down a road to spend $2k. That's just crazy, imo.

I think that was replacing the entire piece with new. I will bet the Shuttle uses $10K adhesive. :biggrin

Maybe that is why the tiles fall off.

Well, I think the question should be put to the adhesive specialists and engineers here on the forum and at Ford.

Can we or could we use and adhesive and if so, what type?

What would the recommended application be? disassemble and then re-assemble or squeeze it in there and compress with a clamp for allotted amount of time? Blah blah blah

It is my car that I brought to Kendall and pointed it out to him as I had just discovered it. His boy Ryan said, well lets check the other cars that are here. There was a lot full of GTs there :thumbsup so we did check.

All of them seemed to have something going on with this particular part of the window, from extreme like mine where you can see through to some flex upward as to lead one to believe it will be happening soon there too as well :frown

curious...

To clarify my earlier post; Bill told me he has repaired at least a dozen however if not corrected in time the cost to replace is extreme. It requires a new complete window surround which is in $1938.62 retail plus a several hours to install it.

He further postulated that possibly riding with your window down and arm resting up top may make the situation come on faster.

Go press your finger on the vertical band dividing your side window. See if it is bowed out.
