C7 Z06 vs. Nismo GT-R

The cars that they worked with in preproduction I believe had not AC units. The condesor really limits the cooling of the car.The Nardo car had no AC unit in it.At rally 3 in Vegas at Vegas Motor Speedways road course.Myself ,Mark ,Gene and Specracer drove it all day long with no over heating issues what so ever. And I can tell you, we were not being easy on the car. I thrashed it around the track for over an hour till Mark kicked me out!
The other issue is the cars cooling system is not designed for over 700 hp so that added heat produced by a whipple cause it to over heat even quicker.
There are however somethings you can do to reduce over heating.
1 remove exit screens by the hood
2 remove screens in the side vents and remove insulation/sound deadening that is right behind the side vents.I even drilled 2inch holes in the bottom of the side vent to circulate more air in to the engine bay
3 Put in the GT guys racing radiator with Evans coolant. The Evans is far superior in cooling internals.Very popular in the racing community. The improved racing radiator is very track and efficient .
Also be sure as the GT guys did for me. That the seals all around the housing of the Radiator are air tight so every smidgen of air is forced through the rad pack.
A piece of aluminum on the bottom of the very lower inner front facia also forces more air to the rad pack.
Hope this helps For more questions consult with the GT guys. They did all my work.
On the GTR issue.I have owned a GTR.And tracked it some tooUnless you have front and rear diff coolers and a trans cooler. You will over heat the trans.
Although the GTR is blazingly fast around the track. Its truly a 1-2 lap wonder. After that all falls away. The weight ,the heat and the brakes do not go the distance.Case in point. How many Fia races has the GTR won and how many has Corvette won?Ill take the zo6 please!Lets face it we car guys buy cars to have fun first and technology second. Not only that they are comparing a 150k plus GTR.
The GTR is wonderful car for a street car.A track car it is not.Plus I found that the paddles become a bit boring. The analog cars are much more engaging and fun to me.Maybe not quite as fast but much more fun.
Just my 02

FWIW, Randy Pobst is a professional race car driver that's won the 24 hours at Daytona twice, so it's fair to say he's pretty comfortable behind the wheel going fast. :lol

All by himself? I'm sure he is a stud. Jordan had airballs, Tiger had snowmen.

Maybe he had one prairie doggin him, maybe a Vette cut him off on the way to the track, maybe it is terrible in the turns.

He looked uncomfortable (even said that I believe) and after watching it seemed the whole track part was spent talking about it (seemed). I dunno but I'm sure there will be several more vids to discuss.. which is good!

Vettes have always been nervous at speed relative to the competition.

I can't help it; I enjoy watching GM lose. They're whiners when it comes to this kind of stuff. They lost in a truck comparo last month to the new F-150 and their truck spokesperson put out a really childish and very shit-talky statement about Ford's investment in aluminum. For good measure, they then brought up the rear in another comparo where the reviewers concluded they were way behind Ford and Dodge. Haven't changed at all since turning the company into the Titanic.

Dave, let love purge the hate from your heart.

I'm more concerned about the Rust-Oleum paint jobs on these $100k Corvettes than a heat soak problem.

I'll try :lol

How could they miss the overheating issue, especially if it's cooking the driver!

The same way they missed the fact that previous Corvettes would lose oil pressure when turning left on a track. It is only their flagship product after all.

Yes I've seen two Z 06s cook their starved interior cylinder heads at DEs at NOLA and Barber

In the interests of "fair and balanced" reporting, note that many Laguna Seca's had an oil pick-up problem that caused their engines to fry when cornering hard. Haven't seen any press about that, despite the irony that a track-focused car explodes when driven hard on a track! (I'm a Chevy hater too, tho')

Or how they had to install Speedi-Sleeves on the car they anointed "the one"... oh, wait...

Rocketmans perspective is interesting in that I own a Nissan 370-Z which is a wonderfully balanced car with great street performance for the money, but on the track like the GTR it overheats without an aftermarket oil cooler and its brakes which are wonderful completely go away once they get hot. Not a track car in its stock configuration...

Then again we ran a 98 Ford ZX2 in a 14 hour LeMons race last weekend and the only issue was losing 3rd gear...We beat a lot of faster cars that were broken in the pits

Shame on you, Steve! :lol

:pop and how!
