The cars that they worked with in preproduction I believe had not AC units. The condesor really limits the cooling of the car.The Nardo car had no AC unit in it.At rally 3 in Vegas at Vegas Motor Speedways road course.Myself ,Mark ,Gene and Specracer drove it all day long with no over heating issues what so ever. And I can tell you, we were not being easy on the car. I thrashed it around the track for over an hour till Mark kicked me out!
The other issue is the cars cooling system is not designed for over 700 hp so that added heat produced by a whipple cause it to over heat even quicker.
There are however somethings you can do to reduce over heating.
1 remove exit screens by the hood
2 remove screens in the side vents and remove insulation/sound deadening that is right behind the side vents.I even drilled 2inch holes in the bottom of the side vent to circulate more air in to the engine bay
3 Put in the GT guys racing radiator with Evans coolant. The Evans is far superior in cooling internals.Very popular in the racing community. The improved racing radiator is very track and efficient .
Also be sure as the GT guys did for me. That the seals all around the housing of the Radiator are air tight so every smidgen of air is forced through the rad pack.
A piece of aluminum on the bottom of the very lower inner front facia also forces more air to the rad pack.
Hope this helps For more questions consult with the GT guys. They did all my work.
On the GTR issue.I have owned a GTR.And tracked it some tooUnless you have front and rear diff coolers and a trans cooler. You will over heat the trans.
Although the GTR is blazingly fast around the track. Its truly a 1-2 lap wonder. After that all falls away. The weight ,the heat and the brakes do not go the distance.Case in point. How many Fia races has the GTR won and how many has Corvette won?Ill take the zo6 please!Lets face it we car guys buy cars to have fun first and technology second. Not only that they are comparing a 150k plus GTR.
The GTR is wonderful car for a street car.A track car it is not.Plus I found that the paddles become a bit boring. The analog cars are much more engaging and fun to me.Maybe not quite as fast but much more fun.
