Big Decision !!

The double rebuild.

Steve,

In a perfect world, your doctors would be able to put you back together as well as the GT Guys will reassemble your car. Your GT will end up better than new, your body, probably somewhat less so. Just the same, I'm glad you're going to be okay and I look forward to toasting your good fortune with the Maker's Mark Manhattan in Texas while we examine the renewed perfection of your Quicksilver GT. :cheers Heal up, and all the best.

Chip

Just make sure you don't opt for the short shifter when that day comes... :wink

how does the saying go?, its not how long or short your shifter is, its how quickly you can shift it!

Hey Guys,
As per Shelby's request. This was a freak accident as I was riding down a trail on my dirt bike ( I race a KTM 250 XCF-W in the Texas Cross Country Racing Assoc.) on a practice day and actually was heading back to camp area to check on the kids, I was putting along in 2nd gear, standing on the pegs, approx 20 mph, in full race gear, and in a milli-second my front wheel jerked out from under me. I fell on my left side landing on my ribs I broke back in June on a road race bike (track day) anyway I rolled around in the grass a few minutes from pain, felt ok,got on bike and rode another mile back to camp. Sat in a chair and drank some Gatoraide and told my friends I was getting sore and going to call it a day. I stood up to change clothes and I blacked out, my brother brought me too with rags/cold water and I blacked out again, he brought me to again and I started throwing up and we immediately thought UH-OH, so he rushed me to nearest hospital which was only 7 - 8 miles away. I was immediately given a Cat Scan and it was determined I had six broken ribs and a "lacerated" spleen which had been bleeding therefore the blacking out and throwing up. The surgeon decided the spleen could be saved and i was kept for three day for observation and checking hemoglobin (sp) and vitals etc... Once the three days were up I was sent home with instructions to keep still for one week and take it easy for the six weeks to follow. Two days after I was home while sitting in a chair I felt myself starting to feel sick and black out so my wife called 911 and I was taken to local hospital near where I live, we explained the situation to the surgeon on call, he does another Cat Scan and says yes you have six broken ribs and a "crushed" spleen. But he wanted to try and save it, same thing with three days of observation and then go home for weeks rest etc.... After three days the surgeon comes in my room and says your fine Im sending you home, I am released and ride the 8 miles or so to my house in front seat of my wifes car, get to the house, walk in, sit down and I go into stomach pain like no pain Ive ever known !! She calls 911, they rush me back to hospital and I have emergency surgery to remove my spleen and of course at this point they have to cut me from top to bottom, tell me I was on the verge of bleeding to death ! I just wish the surgeon that told me it was crushed would have removed it right then as it probably could have been done with laparoscopy. Sorry for such a long drawn out explantion but this has been going on two weeks now with the surgery recovery etc... Looks like I can go back to the office on Monday. And thanks again for all the well wishes.

Steve

PS SELL THE BIKES THEIR NOT WORTH IT YOUR PAIN AND SUFERING!

'Zactly what I was thinking! :lol

(I sold mine out of concern for re-injuring things I don't DARE re-injure.)

Steve: Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

It happens fast on a bike. Split second. I raced enduros for years. Last bike was a Husqvarna 450TE and used to ride KTMs. I've had my share of injuries... broken toes, elbow, knocked unconscious etc..

I've developed an aversion to pain as I've grown older and gave up riding.

I'd rather sit by the pool with an iced tea or spend time in the garage detailing and pampering the GT.

Get better soon.

:thumbsup

I can't sell the bikes as they have been my life's passion. I rode enduro's as a young teenager, raced moto cross up through early twenties, started roadracing and earned my AMA Pro roadracing licence in my mid 20's racing
250 cc GP bikes and endurance racing for over ten years, then in early forties quit it all and went SCCA formula car racing for 5 - 6 years, then got back on off road bikes, also raced some flat track races a couple years ago, I also have MV Agusta sportbike and a Harley that I ride as much as possible and am collecting some vintage bikes. One of my dreams is to ride all over North, Central, South America and Canada someday. So you can see my motorcycle passion. I just love em !! The GT sure has become a pasion too though !! And that is partly due to this awsome website and its members.

Steve: I hear ya. Grew up on dirt bikes in Virginia...remember the Yamaha mini Enduro???? :thumbsup TS 125 Suzuki...or the RM125 :thumbsup. Man they bring back some memories!. Love bikes. I still have a custom Harley Softail Delux...looks just a 1948 panhead and a Ness Victory Vegas Jackpot. Rode and owned many Ducatis...907ie Paso, 888, 916, 999, 900 Monster. Loved them all. Still wish I had the 888 and 916. Started riding way tooooo fast. Then watched a rerun of Dirty Harry and when Dirty said "Every man's got to know his limitations" I figured, yup, time to slow it down...sold the Ducs and got the Harley.

Ride safe.

iwon`t be there ,but get well soon.mb

The truck came for my GT today to deliver it to the GT Guys, so they should have it in their shop when they return from California. Here are a couple of pics as we were rolling it out to the trailer. The 1929 Ford pick up was sharing the trailer with my GT !! Just think 1929 Ford to 2005 Ford vehicles
together. That is my brother in the photos, not me. Anyway I can wait to get it back !!
