Are build binders available?

I was watching the factory build DVD the other day and noticed that there was a white binder that went with the car as it went down the line. The factory folks were checking off items and recording torque readings in the binder.

Anyway, does anyone know if the notebook for an individual car is available?
Who is the contact? Is there a separate book for wixsom and saleen?

It would be nice for owners to get the documentation before the factory throws it out.

Thanks
Dan

When we were at the rally, this question was specifically asked. The answer is NO. It's a liability issue. No one knew what would happen to them, but no way can we get them.

i also inquired while there
they are the sole property of saleen and are not permitted off their property.

My memory was the binders stayed with the car from SSV to Wixom, at which point they were Ford's and by law have to be retained for 7 years. After that sadly probably distruction.....

I was asking since I saw a car on eBay with the binder included...

I just spoke to the owner of the car on eBay by cell phone. He said they left the build book in the car by accident. He discovered the build book in the car when it was delivered. Shortly after the car was delivered, Ford started calling him. He said they want the build book back, bad. He is not giving it back. That's how he got the build book.

I was gonna say, he must be one hell of a thief. The engineers were quite specific that you couldn't even see your build book, much less get your hands on it.

My understanding is that the Build Books are being catalogued and prepared by Saleen for shipment to Ford for storage. I have not heard that the books will be destroyed after 7 years however. I will see if I can find out. Since Saleen QA is responsible for ensuring a complete accounting of all build books, the individual in question could at least make a good copy of everything in there, including the cover, and send the duplicate to Marc Steppey at Saleen. Seems to me, that would be the right thing to do.
Marc was detailed to Wixom by Saleen, as were many of the other Saleen staff, to ensure QA through the entire build process. They are good folks, and should be given due respect for a great car and a great build team.

When I toured Saleen with the plant manager I was told that Saleen would be the repository for the binders, not Ford. FWIW.

Totally agree Rich, good post!!!

Maybe we need someone to put a post it note on the binders:

"Before disposing of these binders please contact fordgtforum.com. The GT owners will appreciate it"

7 years from now we'll see a post... :biggrin

To all,
Yes there was a build book for each unit produced. They have to be stored for record retension and will never be sold.

Frank, Glad you joined us here on the forum. There are some REALLY great people in here. Reading the posts here really makes everything we did at Wixom mean something. The program is done, but this place keeps it alive. :thumbsup

How about copies. We can make a charitable donation on behalf of Ford!
