Great story Chip! That is a truly inspirational story, and knowing Charley, not a big surprise. He's a amazing kid!! You couldn't have done a better job of raising him. I hope he remains injury-free the rest of the season. I'm looking forward to seeing him at the dinner on 9/28. Thanks for sharing!!

If you didn't mention his leg problems I would have never known from the pictures. I remember him from Rally I. Cool kid.

So I pick up the Sunday Arizona Republic Newspaper and....

Gentlemen,

Yesterday I opened the Sunday Arizona Republic newspaper Sports Section and there is only 1 High School football photo in the paper. A photo of Charley about to sack St. Mary's QB during last Fridays game!! Game 3 of the season was Charley's best yet, with multiple QB sacks, a blocked punt followed by recovery of the football, and a bunch of tackles behind the line of scrimmage. I'm knocking on wood when I say, If the little guy's knees hold out he'll have a great season. Several of my family members are following this thread now so I'm gonna keep updating it. Please ignore it if high school sports is not your cup of tea. Cheers! :cheers

Chip

Wow, that's a great shot in the paper! Going to be an exciting season.

Way cool!

awesome pics and so happy for you as the proud pappa...

CONGRATS MY FRIEND! This is what life is all about. :cheers

Amazing.

Gentlemen,

I got a text message today from a buddy that told me to look up CBS Sports MaxPreps.com website. "What is that?", I asked him. I've never heard of it. They keep stats on all High School teams & players in the country. OK? I punch it up and see that Charley Beck, after the first 4 games of the season, is ranked the #1 Defensive Lineman in Arizona, leading in both Quarterback Sacks and Tackles.

:banana

How cool is that! :cheers

Chip

Hey - Give Charley my congratulations!!!!!

Wow!!! That's so exciting Chip! Even without last year's unfortunate event and his size that would be impressive. I'm glad you are keeping this thread going. If Charley keeps it up he'll have a FL spectator cheering him on from the stands one of these weeks! :biggrin :banana

Chip,
Great story!!! As I read and looked at the pictures, I was reminded of my 20 year reunion next week.... I'm still the same size as I was when I was freshman, maybe a 1/2 inch shorter now from stunts..

I think every father/parent absolutely agrees with you on everything you said. I love talking about my son and his accomplishments and look fwd to every new word/phrase and athletic move that comes outta him.... I've often questioned if I talk about him too much, but we can't.... we can't ever :)

When I saw the pics of Charley from Rally I, that's how I remember him.... He's huge now..... and my philosophy on athletics because of my size is "better to be a small fish in a big pond then the biggest fish in a small pond" Allows plenty of room for growth, strength and determination etc....

Great for him..... good luck for the rest of the season and I look fwd to hearing you talk about him more....

A very heart warming story............Thank you Chip for letting us see the workings of your inner heart and soul.................very touching indeed............. Congrats to Charley........

Roll 'em up.

Gentlemen,

http://www.flickr.com/photos/brophy_prep/5075512647/#/

The link above popped up on the web yesterday. I don't know who took these photos of Charley but it's a cool sequence. After 6 games #54 is still the #1 Defensive Lineman in AZ 5-A Division 1 in both tackles and sacks and he was 1 of 7 defensive linemen named (Honorable Mention) in Arizona's mid-season All-State Team. Not that I'm paying any attention. :lol

Little Charley continues to play like a wildman. :banana
