After market shocks

Black 2003 Cobra - I don't know what the specs are. I believe by damping factors you mean damping/dampening coefficients or constants. I have a feeling neither Penske or Alex aka T&A will divulge that info as there is a lot of R&D & work to get those numbers. I can get the spring rates or measure them myself. I actually have access to a shock dyno so I could find the coefficients, but I won't tell anyone unless Alex says ok. I probably wouldn't do it until it's time to rebuild them as I am hoping they will work out of the box without revalving! That is whenever I get them. It's been over 2 weeks & I am still waiting. Not to be a stickler but the units of coefficients would be expressed as N s/m or lb s/m. Hey, it's cool you know about suspension though. I really feel that suspension & tires have a much larger impact on cornering, ie. road race/track time, than engine output.

That's cool. I understand. Perhaps you can give me the damping factors for the stockers, if you measure them? I agree about the tires! I don't suppose you know their compliance, LOL! And yes... N s/m are the units. Same thing as N/m/s, (Newtons per meter/sec). I just didn't write it as N/(m/s). What can I say...I'm lazy! I was looking for the numbers to do some suspension modeling.

still waiting on Penske shocks

Has anyone received their Penske shocks yet? Mine have been on order for 2 months but nothing yet. I'm still waiting to hear from Alex at T&A regarding the delay to give everyone an update.

Update from Alex - T&A on shocks

Alex just emailed me regarding the delay in Penske shock deliveries. Penske has decided to update the entire model 8100 shock line - which includes the GT shocks. The main update is improved threads on the shock body. Alex apologizes for the delay. I will keep everyone informed via this thread. No word on estimated date of delivery yet.

Penske Shocks received!!!!!

The Penske shocks arrived today from T&A. It took exactly 21 days via USPS Parcel Post! I could've rode my bicycle from CA to MI & back in that time. Alex has stated that he will not ship the other shocks with USPS.

Anyway, the shocks are very trick looking & very light. The resevoir & shock body are anodized black while the Hyperco springs are dark blue. As with all Penskes the machining is cool & well done. After they are installed I'll report back. Alex says he is slowly filling all the orders & apologizes for the delays. They are well worth the wait.

I also just received the SVT 2 piece floating brake rotors. Very light. I think I paid around $3500 for all 4 from my GT dealer. He told me they are listed as limited quanity.

SVT brake rotors + new Ford GT exhaust

I will definitely weigh the stock & SVT rotors & let you know.

The new 07 Ford Performance Parts catalog has a nice writeup on the GT & also lists a new exhaust #M-5230-GT "Ford GT Rear Exit Headers". It is not the #M-9430-GT "Ford Long Tube headers" from from 06. It is a one piece exhaust that is a header, collector type muffler & tail pipe (no cats). I'd like to hear from the first one of us that tries it out.

Harrold Ford in Sacramento has lots of the new catalogs. If you stop by the dealership, I'm sure Dave the owner will gladly give you one. He may not spend the money to mail it though. He has a new red GT on the floor. He loves to see one on the floor so as he sells each one he buys another one so he can look at it each day at work. He's crazy about GTs!

There is a mention of the new "Ford GT Power Upgrade Package" also in the new catalog.

love my T&A Penskes

I have driven on some favorite back road twisties & the Penskes are great. I lowered it around an inch all the way around. I still need to get my alignment & corner weight set up. The ride is stiffer but it works great on the bumpy roads I drive on. The faster you go the better. I'll track test them this spring. I haven't changed the adjusters from T&A settings yet. Alex was very helpful on the install. A great upgrade for a great car!

FYI for those interested in the Penske shocks, Steve Millen has them installed on their race prepped FGT. I was there today speaking with son Kyle and their findings were the shocks worked very will in various conditions. Don't have their number handy but the company is Stillen in Costa Mesa, CA.
