After market shocks

I was wondering if there is any progess on shocks. Last post said T&A was making some adjustable spring location rings for stock shocks. I think kinetics is taking deposits for motons for 5k+, not sure if they are available. Penske said they might come up with something. This is what I have heard, anything else out there?

shock update

I just received an email update from Alex at T&A. There are photos of the Penske shocks for the GT & of the adjustable spring keeper on the stock shocks. With either set up one could adjust the ride height; & for us track nuts, we can dial in the corner weights! Alex also has detailed instructions & step by step install photos of his trans breather kit. Contact him at [email protected]

I believe Alex is working with Penske to have the shocks made for T&A. I spoke to Penske (see my previous posts under Ford GT Tech "Stock Spring Rates") a while back & they will make the shocks for anyone but they need to make a minimum number of units to make it feasible (the mounting studs/spacer & valving are unique to the GT). This is where T&A comes in as Alex can get them to make a batch for him. Alex posted on this site in the past. Maybe he'll post the photos. I have lots of photos to post included the ones from T&A but I don't know how to post them here.

Ed,

I too am interested in the adjustable spring perches. The front end of the GT needs to be lower. I'm nearly positive that the reason we have all of that height in the front is because of US min bumper height requirements. It should be about an inch or more lower, IMHO.

You can send me any pics you want posted and I'll put them up in this thread.

I'll contact Alex and see what can be done, Thanks Ed

Count me in for a set of Penskes if price is half way reasonable.

Penske shocks

I spoke to Jim at Penske today. They are fitting a pre-production set to a GT next week for the final check. Most likely Alex & his company T&A will be the retail source. They may make an adjustable rebound & compression set & a non-adjustable set. Both sets will have the spring preload adjustable (which is turn adjusts the ride height & corner weight). I'll keep all informed unless Alex does it first.

I just received a set of Moton Clubsports (1 of 5 sets in their !st production run) 2-way adjustable coil-overs to be installed next week. They were fairly expensive at $7K, but should work wonders at the track while not losing any streetability.

Thanks for the update, look forward to your impression of the new system. I believe you will be able to lower ride heigth.

Thanks Calicuda. Yes, I will be able to lower the ride height and will have them installed to show you at the Rally in Wixom if you're going.

Where can I get a set?

I go through a shop in the Chicago area named Fall-Line. Because of installing previous applications, they informed me that Moton was making 5 sets on their first run and to act quickly with a deposit. Apparently they only made 2 sets, so I got lucky. Also, they are not Clubsports, but the better Motorsport setup. I'm no authority on racing parts, so I can't tell you anymore than Moton's website provides. I believe any top race shop in your area could make the right arrangements for you. If not, e-mail [email protected] for help.

I guess I should have posted this question in this thread. Anyone know the damping factors of the stockers (N/m/s or lb/in/s)? Thanks.

Penske Racing Shocks

I just posted a photo of the Prototype Penske Shocks from T&A shocks on the Forum Photo Gallery. Search :

Penske Shocks for the Ford GT

These are the units I received from Penske today. And will be used to confirm fitment. And proper hose length for the remote bump cans.

I will have them at the Rally for show and tell.

Alex :cheers

Ordered Penske Shocks from T&A

I ordered today from Alex at T&A Shocks a set of Penske shocks for my GT. Penske will only sell their shocks for the GT through T&A. They are triple adjustabled with remote reservoirs. Three different spring rates are available (stock, performance & race). I ordered the performance which is 10% heavier than the stock rate. Because of the stiff chassis the rates are are fairly soft in comparison to other production cars. Double adjustable versions are also available. Alex tells me they will be ready to ship in 10 days. I put 50% down. The total is $4460.http://stores.ebay.com/TA-Shocks or 313-600-5383

I'll let you know how they work on the street & track.

In reviewing the Ford Gt website I see that the GT is advertised as having adjustable shocks?

not adjustable

Perhaps at one time Ford thought it might sell the GT with adjustable shocks but as they come on the showroom floor they are not adjustable. It doesn't even appear that they are rebuildable.

Penske

I also ordered a set of Penske's. What some may not know is that the Penske's have been designed and developed specifically for the GT by the guys who designed, developed and engineered the GT suspension in the first place. I'll support any of the GT Team. Look what they gave us...
(Mac not included in the accolades! :frown )

Gordo.

Will they tell you what the damping factors are on these aftermarket pieces? (N/m/s or lb/in/s)

specs

Black 2003 Cobra - I don't know what the specs are. I believe by damping factors you mean damping/dampening coefficients or constants. I have a feeling neither Penske or Alex aka T&A will divulge that info as there is a lot of R&D & work to get those numbers. I can get the spring rates or measure them myself. I actually have access to a shock dyno so I could find the coefficients, but I won't tell anyone unless Alex says ok. I probably wouldn't do it until it's time to rebuild them as I am hoping they will work out of the box without revalving! That is whenever I get them. It's been over 2 weeks & I am still waiting. Not to be a stickler but the units of coefficients would be expressed as N s/m or lb s/m. Hey, it's cool you know about suspension though. I really feel that suspension & tires have a much larger impact on cornering, ie. road race/track time, than engine output.

update on Penske shocks

I have just been told there is a delay on the shocks from Penske. Alex states the shocks may be ready in a few more weeks. I would feel that November would be a realistic delivery date. It's too late for 2006 track testing but I'll give everyone a report next year. I hope that by 07 a few more companies will have shocks for the GT so we can compare them.
