That photo does well to show the rich, vibrant depth of the blue stripes. I (incorrectly) had thought they were just "blue" until I saw Ed Sims car in person.

No doubt about that - it's the reason that Mercedes, Porsche, and Audi never painted their race cars in the early days - just to save weight. Similarly, the main fuel tank on the Space Shuttle.
Not sure that the white paint is any lighter (mass wise) than any other color, though.
Not sure if you can see it in the picture, but the GT guys painted the calipers blue with ford gt on them.

No question about it, white is faster!!! I do think that the white cars with blue stripe and red calipers are the fastest, as they're the most patriotic as well!!!!!
