A/C wasn't blowing cold

So, on the new to me 05 GT that I bought a month ago, the A/C was luke warm. I had Rich inspect the car prior to purchase, all was well, and when I let him know the situation, he thought it would just require a recharge. Rather than deal with a dealer, I first called a local A/C "specialist". I asked him if I could come buy for a check/recharge. He first asked what kind of car, and I answered "ford". Next he asked for model, and I answered "GT", he asked "Mustang", I said no. He then told me he was real busy and I'd have to leave the car for half a day. I asked how much to perform the service, he said between $100 and $150. I told him that I wouldn't leave the car, and that I'd get back to him. I called my local "mechanic" whom I trust, but hadn't initially called, and asked if he could perform A/C maintenance, the answer was "sure, I have the machine", bring it in at 8am tomorrow. I pulled out the front tray, he hooked up the machine, found out that I had .4lbs of coolant, checked for leaks, recharged the system, checked again. Started it up, stuck the thermometer down a vent, watched it drop to 47 degrees, and still dropping, and removed it. Entire process took less than 1/2 hour, and costs $85. Yeah, I'm going to leave my car with this jackass "specialist" for 1/2 a day!!!! Back to like the old GT, going to have to turn down the A/C so my testicles don't freeze!!!!

7 yrs on R34 is long...tell me, do you happen to know if they used R34 or is something else now?

Roger,
Good thing you got that fixed.
Weather is going to heat up.
I always run the AC for a little while regardless of the ambient temp, good for the seals.

The system holds 16 oz. Once you get around half full, youo can really feel it not working. There is absolutely nothing exotic about the system. Hilo Dave drove cross country without AC. We showed him how to fill the system on his own for the return trip.

My air stopped cooling also. Anyone want to give me a quick primer on recharging?

Jim,, just ake it to your Ford dealer. Remove the front trunk tray and the fittings are right at the top on the right side. They hook up the recovery machine and then refill the system, It takes 16 oz. to be full. Takes maybe half an hour max.

Help please! During yearly service my mechanic discovered a puddle of yellow/green oily fluid on the floor pan just underneath the A/C compressor. He couldn't locate where it was coming from, but he was telling me that this is A/C compressor oil (PAG Refrigerant Compressor Oil). Seems like coming from above the A/C compressor. Everything was cleaned up, and after 100 miles with A/C switched on, I checked and it is there again. Any hint to quickly locate the leak? Thanks!

I had the same issue, always thought it was from changing the oil filter until I noticed the bright yellow color. It ended up coming from the compressor between where the front plate bolts to the housing. Thus a new compressor was installed a few weeks back!!!
