08 Shelby GT500KR to have our engine!

I have an order in for an 07 GT500, but may hold off 6 months for the KR.

Here is a web site forum, not too dissimilar to this one on the Shelbys

It would make sense that if a KR came out, especially with a GT engine (which is doubtful) It would be lower in production than the Shelby 500 @ approx 9,000 units (not sure on the production numbers on that one)...

Anyway, with lower production numbers, perhaps it could be a car that would only be available to existng Ford GT owners?!?!

Similar to the 96 Viper GTS (Only original Viper owners could get on the list).... Hmmm I'm smelling a sweet marketing idea that I would personally buy into.

Perhaps matching VIN plates and color combos?

I hope they do use the GT motor in a Shelby Mustang. The biggest beef about the current GT500 is too much weight up front. An aluminum block would be the ticket. The biggest downside for me is this very expensive motor would make for a very expensive Shelby Mustang that I would have to have. The build #'s for such a car would be low and I don't think the GT's value would be affected a bit. The Lambo V-10 is currently being used in an Audi and it's not hurting Lombo resale. Plus...I would love to own a GT/Mustang pair with identical motors. JMO

How much weight would the GT500 loose with the aluminum block? I think for the car they should make around 1500 of them and whipple or kb them from the factory.

200+ pounds.

My 427SC Cobra has a Shelby aluminum block in place of the original cast iron block and the weight savings is about 300 pounds according to the builder. This is a big block so the weight savings should be less with the small block Ford V-8 in the GT500.

On 4.6 engines I have seen 75 lbs diff between iron and aluminum. I have heard the weight diff is not as big as one would hope. Maybe somebody with mucho experience could chime in.

Cuda is correct. I was told by someone who should know that that is the approximate difference between the Al and Fe blocks on the 5.4 as well. hence the reticence to add it on the GT500.

GT engine in Shelby 500

I agree with others that what Ford MUST do is either use our motor, or simply fab an aluminum block for the existing Shelby 5.4 as the Shelby, neat as it is, is simply too HEAVY. My guess is that Chip has it about right....savings should be on the order of 300 pounds, or close too it......

The GT motor is NOT going in the GT500. Nor is an Aluminum block. At least not in 08 or 09.

Aluminum Block Engine

Dave, I know for sure you are right, My source close to Ford (Rick Titus) says " It won't be done by Ford Motor Co., but whose to say that Shelby won't do it in Las Vegas with his Aluminum block, but not for Ford". TGH

Hey stranger - long time no hear. How's it going?

That's the first picture of a GT I've seen with the fogs on - really caught my eye.

I noticed that as well:thumbsup . I don't believe I've ever turned mine on, won't make that mistake again.
