AM I the only one mad that Ford would use our GT engine for the upcoming Mustang? This really bothers me. Takes away the unique-ness of the GT.

Not really on my end. It is what it is. A mod motor is a mod motor. You can stuff it in anything you want, but at the end of the day the GT is a supercar from the ground up, the KR is a Mustang with a huge engine.

P.S, where did you hear this? Does not jive with previous info.

I helps to always look on the positive side of things. More engines used in a lower price car, means an abundance of cheaper engines and parts for us GT owners. If you were in Ford's shoes wouldn't you want to maximize profits from your past engineering efforts?

Just think of the bargain blocks we can find in totaled Mustangs of the future.

Look at it as flattery and less expensive, more available spare parts :thumbsup

I'm gonna need some confirmation on this tidbit before I pass judgment. What do you have to say mr gb?

Is it confirmed that its using the GT engine?

If it is true, it would be interesting to see if they keep it with the dry sump.

That would be my thought which would prevent it. I don't even want to think of the unnecessary complexity of swapping that around.

A drag pack with gear and suspension tweaks makes more sense to moi.

I dont have "confirmation" from Ford. Several reliable sources at Shelby and Ford have spread this rumor. Soon it will be written, then considered fact. At this point its just rumor. To respond to the idea that this is a good thing, lets just say I totally disagree. If they put Boss 429 engines in other cars besides the Boss 9's, it would have KILLED a big part of the car and its uniqueness. Maybe im nuts, but I dont like this at all. I realize our GT's have lots of other unique parts and attributes, but I think Ford could easily just bumped up the power of the GT500 engine and used that in the KR. That would have more like what they did in 68'. They didnt point a 427 cammer in it....

Gotcha. If it's not confirmed, I won't believe it for now. I've heard nothing of this and I'm usually light years ahead on this kind of stuff, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Ok DBK, Let me know if you get confirmation and I will do the same. I sure hope this one is bs. But one guy said he even SAW a prototype car out in Nevada, so he's SURE they ARE doing it..... man this ticks me off! I know the GT is faster and WAY better anyway, but it just takes something away from the unique-ness factor. I always laugh when guys say our engine is the same one if the Lightning trucks!! But now, if they say its the same one in the KR, I wont be able to laugh... ; )

Is this KR supposed to be a limited production car or something??????

Guys,

ROCMAN is right about this! Jay

Well, Jay & ROCMAN, it's not really a decision. If they use the GT engine, they really HAVE to use a dry-sump system. This is because of the current skirt design of the GT block. It was the expense and complexity of the dry-sump system which had prohibited the use of the block in the GT500, for example. Our beloved Ford GT has to carry the engine very low because of the design of the car and the need to carry a low CG. A conventional oil pan was out of the question. In another car design where there IS room for a conventional pan, it's a pretty expensive decision to opt for a dry-sump with all of the extra parts and space (oil reservoir) requirements.

The block can be modified for a starter and typical oil pan, JDM, Accufab and other companies are already doing the machining.

Whilst this wouldn't have a particular impact in Europe, I can't see the fact that the GT500KR might share the same engine as anything other than a benefit to us. More shops able to work on the engine, the longevity of parts availability etc. It is this last point that would be a vote winner for me as I intend keeping my GT for many years.

The Ford GT is a completely unique design and, in time, there will be cheaper, faster and more powerful pretenders to the Crown - but the iconic GT stands alone as the only modern day classic.

I thought the GT500 used basically the same engine as our GT’s. Just cast iron instead of aluminum and of course minus the dry sump system. Either way I am not worried about the GT being lessened in anyway. It is a unique animal. I went to a motorsport shop today an got to see to every Mustang/Camero/Viper guru drool like 2month old babies.

This aint no Mustang.

I know a lot of F150 owners were outright pissed when their basic motor went through some mods and then straight into our GT's.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it too much. An engine alone does not make a vehicle.

And yes, I am aware of the many differences between our motors and the F150 motors, just trying to be funny.

'Word I got was it's basically the same mod motor ( in the sense that ALL mod motors are "the same") ... but it duzzunt have but 500HP instead of the, what, 600 or so REAL HP the GT "commencer" has? Also, it isn't given the "race prep" and doesn't have the "specs" that the GT's mill has. (And doesn't the 500's mill have an "iron" block?)

'Face it. The GT mill is, like, $50K or whatever it is? And the "LIST price" on a '500 'Stang is????? Logic says, "Do the math". And, if you DO the $math$ - ain't no way it can be the same mill.

:wink Check the fit of the current 5.4 in the Shelby - tight!. I can't imagine packaging the incremental girth (and assessory drive) into the engine bay (between the shock towers) of a Mustang. Romeo balanced out these enginers literally to the part number and FPSD did a balance-out buy from the component suppliers.

To DBK's point, it hasn't hit my radar either. Perhaps Ford marketing is trying to create a 'buzz', develop an upcoming teaser show vehicle, or perhaps a worthy opponent for the rumored Blue Devil?? Guess it worked.....

Somebody call that Hau Thai Tang guy.
