08 Shelby GT500KR to have our engine!

Even if they use the gt's motor, its still not a GT!!
Nor will any mustang ever handle like a GT!!

Let's see - 35K motor in a 30L car. Hum ........... throw a rod and you have a total.

It would have to be something like an 80K Mustang. Seems rather unlikely.

I don't see the problem. Look back 40 years. The powerplants that were in the GT40s, cobras and Daytonas were also in some stangs. Look at their value now. I'm also leaning toward this being BS just because of the cost factor. Someone inside told me that the actual cost of a GT motor is $11,000 so if they want to mark down the crate motor volume would do it.

I think the PHP mustang put the oil tank in the trunk. That would free up the space needed to do the job. It also proves that a GT motor fits fine as long as it's ok to have the air intake through the firewall.

I am with the availibility of parts angle. The more of these engines; and the more techs who know how to work on them the better.

Yeah, this ain't happenin.

Oh, and for anyone who doesn't know, Hau Thai Tang was promoted and is no longer head of SVT.

Promoted

Promoted to Europian Operations from SVT. TGH

I agree with Neilda, more engines out there similar to ours, better support, more aftermarket, more development, etc. The engine is just 1 component in the car that encompasses complete system.

An engine alone, does not a supercar make.

Ain't THAT the truth! The engine in the SSC "Ultimate Arrow" is a duel turbo equipped Chevy small block!

The Z06 community had the same reaction when Corvette announced they were putting their motors in the CTS-V and the C6Z maintained their prices for new & used..

I also remember when the GT was announced, some english fellow made fun of the fact that the GT's short block came from a Ford truck. Who cares?

One good way to look at it is that there will be more trained technicians to work on them..

My $0.02

I know a lot of F150 owners were outright pissed when their basic motor went through some mods and then straight into our GT's.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it too much. An engine alone does not make a vehicle.

And yes, I am aware of the many differences between our motors and the F150 motors, just trying to be funny.

I thought they were different motors, only sharing the displacement. From what I understand, everything about the motor is different than the F150 5.4. Can someone back me up on this, or am I dreaming again?

I think they share bore centers. The GT motor was engineered by Roush. I went to the class at SVT at the centennial. They demoed their cad/cam process.

Don't tell that to a Viper-powered truck owner. :lol

How about the GR1 V-10? I know it will fit in the 99-04 Mustang, so it should fit in the current one. 605HP NA and probably 200# lighter than the GT500 package.

I'll take one.

AM I the only one mad that Ford would use our GT engine for the upcoming Mustang? This really bothers me. Takes away the unique-ness of the GT.

I hope they do use the GT motor in a Shelby Mustang. The biggest beef about the current GT500 is too much weight up front. An aluminum block would be the ticket. The biggest downside for me is this very expensive motor would make for a very expensive Shelby Mustang that I would have to have. The build #'s for such a car would be low and I don't think the GT's value would be affected a bit. The Lambo V-10 is currently being used in an Audi and it's not hurting Lombo resale. Plus...I would love to own a GT/Mustang pair with identical motors. JMO

+1 :thumbsup

I for one have no issues with the idea; if anything it makes great sense and will likely benefit us over time.

Most OEM’s even in the Exotic arena use the same basic power plant in several vehicles; Ferrari 430 has a Masserati engine, the Lamborghini Gallardo is suspected soon to share its heart with the Audi, McClaren uses the BMW V12, and the list goes on.

Any gal is the sum total of the parts and the manner in which they are integrated……. Not based on her individual parts; IMO.

Rest assured; the Mustang and the GT will never be compared at length in the same sentence.

Takes care

DBK says:

Whether you are for or against = moot point, not happenin.

Added dealer mark-up on a Shelby is $25,000 so a $80,000 Mustang might sell also.

Hey stranger - long time no hear. How's it going?

That's the first picture of a GT I've seen with the fogs on - really caught my eye.
