Guys, I'm about to purchase a set of 19 fronts and 20 rears so I can run the Michelin PS II's (255 front & 335 rear). The diam. front stock Goodyear is 26.34 and the Mich. is 26.04. My concern is the rear. Stock Goodyear diam is 28.9 and the Mich is 28.15. The rep for the rim manufacture said this may be a problem for the computer and ABS system however the shop installing says I will be fine. Any opinions?

Do they make a 345? that may a better size. Is the 335 a 30/35 or 40 A/S ratio ?

No, the Michilen option for the rear 20" 335/30 and front is a 19" 255/35. I have heard of some other sizes in the 20" front and 22" rear but that is a little larger than I want to go.

Steve, you ask a great question and I wish I had a definitive answer for you. In my experience the OEM's can program the ABS computer really tight - if they wanted to. I believe one of the most important comparisons is the front/back ratio. By my calcs, stock front/rear is a 9.8% circumference difference. Assuming the rear tire loses .5 inches in diameter due to wear (1/4" tread depth reduction), the ratio falls to 7.9%. At .75" diameter reduction in the rear (really, really bald) this ratio is 7%. My assumption is that the stock ABS isn't really going to have a problem with this.

With the tire sizes you indicated, you have a 7.2% front/rear circumference ratio difference. With .5 diameter reduction at the rear (1/2" tread depth wear), your ratio falls to 5.3%

My GUESS is that you won't have any problems when new, but you have the potential to see some problems with tire wear.

We disputed this over and over on the ZO6vette forums. The ratio is the key, as Kendall suggested. But I any many others have run outside the ratio by more than you are talking with no issues at all. The Z also has stability control. I know it works on the GM program. But on the Ford?. I know the new Mustangs can easily handle that much of a ratio difference.

This would be a good question for Alex at TA.

I am currently running those sizes with HRE 19 and 20 wheels. I also have the brembo kit up front. I have put 2500 miles on them without a problem. The car's handling character changes dramatically in all situations. Increased steering feel and response. Some may not like this..less play at high speeds..so be prepared for the change if you encounter these speeds on a regular basis. I have been 150 cruise, can't comment on anything faster than that. IMHO vehicle remains smooth, increased stability and tracking with higher levels of grip. I also researched for any other tire that would work. The corsas sizes 345 and 255 will work, but could not find the fronts in stock anywhere or would have used them. I run the corsas on my modded evo and they are killers. I have not found any other company at this time that makes rubber for us. I for one bought a sports car and love the change. That said CCw wheels will be even lighter but not look as nice.

Steve, this sounds like a good combination. What wheels are you getting?

Thanks for the responce guys. I'm going to place the order tomorrow.

Blackice. The wheels I'm getting can be found by going to google and type in Boze Alloys. Click on Boze Alloys-Custom .... then "Wheels" the "ZE Forded" find "Mesh" Click on the photo, Then click "finnish" scroll to the bottom and see "Charcoal/Satin".

Nice wheels Steve. I look forward to seeing pictures. :thumbsup

They are made to fit therefor 3 to 4 weeks out. I'll post some pics then.

Just another quick piece of information I have noticed that pirelli makes rosso rubber sizes 255 19front 315 20 rears. This seem to match oem diameters better but less wide. Anybody familiar with these..comments from you engineer types?

Are there any other options for new tires besides the Goodyear OEM tires. At 9,000 miles I need to replace them, same size of wheels? I am not interested in a track tire.

Same here. I want a track worthy tire that will perform on the street. I only track the car a few times a year (3-4).

Pirelli makes a P Zero 345/35ZR19 which I've seen on a GT which the owner uses for both street and track. It looks great.

Those Pirelli tire really look good and I hear they are mad sticky.

However, regarding the Pirelli's there are two things to consider: They do not currently have a matching front tire size for the GT and they are EXPENSIVE.

http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebrand=Pirelli&tiremodel=P-Zero+Corsa+System

The site above has the rears for $842.00...EACH. However, the tire Rack has them for $555.00 each, a much better price. Still, you can get a SET of rear OEM tires for $618.00 ($308.00 each) at the tire rack. There is also a Bridgestone 345/35-19 for only $314.00. Bridgestone also makes a matching 255/40-18 front tire. I can't vouch for this tires' performance, but it's worth considering if one wants wider than stock tires, but don't need race-traction and it's associated higher price.

When they were here in Atlanta, the GT guys said the replacement interval of rear to front tires is 2 to 1. In other words you should get TWICE the mileage out of your fronts than rears OR alternatively, replace the rears twice before you have to replace the fronts.

Anyone have experience with the Bridgestones as compared to the Goodyears?

CC Wheels

I just ordered a set of C14 CC Wheels for the GT with Goodyear slicks. I'll run the Hoosiers for the road & the full slicks for the track. The wheels are $2900 & the tires are $600. I'll post photos & eval when I receive them in 2-3 weeks. 10.5 x 18 fronts & 12 x 18" rear rims. They've sold 14 GT sets so far. They also have 19" rears but I wanted a better rubber selection for the track.

Ask for John to discuss the GT options for road or track.

Ed are you going to drive the slicks to the track or tow the GT now?

I have the same speedo error with the 19 and 20's and PS2 as I did with the stock wheels according to my GPS.

Steve:

I assume these sizes will not rub inside the wheel wells? Thanks .....
