A new way to be E-BAY deceptive

The auction price is for the amount of the vehicle over MSRP. The winning bidder will purchase this vehicle at MSRP + auction price.
They are looking to get $161,595 + $30,000 = $ 191,595

However they do state:
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE ITEM DESCRIPTION, TERMS AND CONDITIONS BEFORE PLACING BIDS TO AVOID CONFUSION.

Many a corvette has a listing like this, usually 1950s model (one there now).

You click on the photo and your screen flips twice and its asks for your ID; yes many think its ebay and log in ... it aint.

Its been going on for years. Surprisingly, many do not read anything and just bid.

Also notice the dealership's answers to the questions, the dealership doesn't even clarify the price then. They just refer the person asking the question to read the terms. A typical garbage way of making a sale. The least they could do is clarify the actual price when some asks them point blank about it.:bs

############# I read that but it makes no sense. That would mean that they had access to or ownership of 2 black cars with no top stripe which is unlikely.

I think that they accidentally carried that over from a previous auction

Be aware that they even have a "reserve" (probably something like 10 K over list)

LOTS AND LOTS of dealers have used that one in the past on GT's

I don't like it but I don't see it a priori as "unethical". Its an auction with a starting price (list). Ebay has allowed this many times in the past. I do, however, find something less than complete black letter transparency. The dealer is trying to capitalize on the fact that many many Ebay buyers don't read the ad.

You could report that to eBay and they will take down the listing. The starting price isn't MSRP technically and eBay isn't making any money on the MSRP price. They would only be making money on the sold price and the sold price is of the amount over MSRP. So the dealer is using eBay to sell a $160K car and not pay a thing for it. Kind of like the guys who used the GTPricing site to buy a GT and didn't kick him down for saving them money....whoops did I say that

Now, if you can't trust an auto dealer - who CAN you trust???????:shrug This is just FURTHER proof (as if we needed more) that, "if it seems too good to be true..."

I saw this a lot when I was shopping for my Shelby GT500 2007. At least for those auctions, it was mostly clear and straight forward .

If the auction does not explain what is going on clearly , then there is a problem.

At the end of the day, the bidder can back out and petition eBay (and obviously not send the money) if the add was deceptive or confusing.

Sorry, Doc. No cigar. These clowns are very obviously trying to put one over on somebody plain & simple. If they WEREN'T - they'd have listed their intented asking price "straight up". (When I read this ad, I couldn't believe I didn't see "Maxie Price Chevrolet" in Loganville, Ga. listed as the dealer.) You ARE right about your "unethical" point though in the sense that numerous car dealers have these same "ethics"... if you wanna call 'em that. 'Far as I'm concerned, a business of any kind should deal 'straight up' - or shut up.
