On the road to Rally 8? Check in here.

2 GTs loaded and on their way - they joined an all black from Wisconsin and a Heritage #9 from South Dakota (if we knew your Forum names we would have PMd you both).

leaving for Rally 8.jpgStarted my journey to Rally 8 at 6 am this morning. 853 miles later I made it to Grand Island, Nebraska. Off to Breckenridge, CO tomorrow to hang with my brother and do some mountain biking. 10 years later I now understand why Jeff and Ralphie drive their cars such long distance. But it even easier with cruise control. Looking forward to Tuesday night and seeing everyone.

^^^ Sweet! Attract much attention? lol. Looks just like my old garage. I even have that Park bike stand and Christmas wreath. Only one bike hanging? We had four!

Darn you!!! I only made 832 when I left the GT Guys that Monday morning at 9:30. I thought about Salina, but decided to call it quits for the day at Topeka. Of Course, my right heel was a bit more sore than yours - damnit!!!

Thats a short hop! I did the 782 to Grand Junction, and it wasn't even getting dark. Called the Piccola and went out to dinner.

See you Tuesday morning in Tahoe - :thumbsup

Nice First Day. 3 Gas Stops and a couple of time zone changes = more daylight west bound. I figure anything over 600 is a bonus.

And the radio must be off. Windows down too.

Did you count the Orange Barrels? Or the photo's that were taken?

Enjoy the ride. See you in the vineyard.

We're the Griswold family here. Have gone about 1,900 miles in the turbo Flex with both kids and no room to spare. In California tomorrow.

Our daughter is named Audrey, and I lobbied hard to name the son Russ, so we'd have Audrey and Rusty. Francesca wasn't having it.

I started out yesterday.....825 miles from Saddlebrooke, MO to Pendleton, SC. Yeah, I headed East! Listened to my wife's directions!!

The truth is she has terrible vertigo problems and driving in the GT is not her thing and grandsons are, so we took Mimi to Pendleton, and I fly to Sacramento tomorrow. Ready to be there and get rolling with my GT brothers and sisters.

Awesome DBK! If you're Clark for the Rally then I call Fletch when going back to work the week after.

Just finished day two with an leisurely 480 mile drive from Grand Island, NE to Breckenridge, CO with a nice lunch in Sterling, CO. Cold and rain up here in Breckenridge, 100 degrees in Nebraska to 60 and rain all in less than 6 hours. Rest tomorrow then off to Salt Lake City Sunday morning to pick up someone special.

Is that the new ride?

^^^lol. They did not slow down to take a look at me.

Well, Phase One of Amy's 5 Phase Plan is complete. We have arrived in Lone Pine CA and unloaded the GT. The VW and trailer will stay here until after the Post-Rally Rally. Lots of CHP on US 395. I am betting I will get a ticket sometime this weekend.

Started the day in Kingman AZ.

Stop in Boron CA. This rig replaced what 20 mule teams did a few generations earlier.

Lone Pine CA. Famous for the Alabama Hills where many western movies were filmed. Looking west at the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada.

Yes - US 395 is used as a training road for CHP graduates - they learn to drive fast without being in heavy traffic. You'll find a lot of them from Lone Pine (actually farther south to Ridgecrest) all the way to the Nevada border at Topaz Lake. They also inhabit the mountain passes - CA-108, CA-89, CA-88 & US 50.
