Hi all -

I just joined and am looking to buy an FGT. I'm really looking for an '06 white with all options, but have some questions...

I've heard about the Ford racing package as being a reasonable way to get a bit more power out of the GT, so I'd be looking at that as my 1st mod. It's only for the street...not going to be raced on the track or the strip, but just want to a bit more power over stock in any case...

I'm also curious -- but think I already know the answer. Like my Viper...the GT has no nanny's other than my right foot, right? It does have ABS? I'm assuming from what I read...

It's as brutal as a Viper when driven without due respect?

What are the known technical issues with these cars? Engine, tranny...drivetrain, electrical? Any recall notices on them?

What should I be aware of - this being my first GT? I do know how to drive high HP performance cars, so please don't tell me I shouldn't buy a GT - LOL. I have driven Vipers for a while and they're probably more brutal cars than GT's. What red flags should I be looking for when buying? I've purchased several vehicles off E-bay and various forums/sites before, all with great success, but I know little about the GT's other than current market pricing out there...

I am doing the research right now on the car, but would appreciate any help or tips that would assist me in making the decision to buy.

Thanks - Steve...

do a search, there is tons of info in here regarding this matter, or you can skip all that and just call shelbyelite one of our members he can tell you everything you need to know!

search will be your friend.

GT's are much easier to drive than Vipers.

Fly in and spend the day with Shelby. You'll learn all you need to know. Then buy a car from him.

This is the path I took.

Most here would probably agree that the single best tip anyone can give you is to have a PPI done by a FGT EXPERT before buying whatever GT you get serious about. "He" will know where/what to look/check for.

(Or buy from a 'Forum sponsor. Or both!)

Your check is in the mail per our agreement, sir...

I look forward to recieving it. I was going to try to start a new trend. Be nice to EP!

You'll sooner see a herd of water buffalo flying backwards - inverted - in the springtime! :biggrin

Thats about as rare as seeing EP driving his FGT.

Is it an urban myth that EP actually drove his FGT?

I did a search on snoops, but didn't find anything conclusive.

:tap: Aaaaaalright. Dat's 'NUFF outta all yuz. :slap

Well I have four GT's and four Vipers. The Vipers are raw, brutal, while the GT is fast but smooth, like a very powerful electric motor. On the race track the GT is much easier to drive compared to the Viper, both go fast, but the Viper is much more work. There are really no red flags regarding a lower, moderately mileage GT. The only red flag would be extensive aftermarket mods. Most mods, however are very good, and are well tested as you will see in many of the posts. A pulley, tune, exhaust will get you lots of extra usable horsepower without drama or high cost. Keep the forum posted on what you uncover and the group will comment and perhaps shed light on the specific car you're considering. You really can't go wrong buying a GT, unless of course you agree to pay $500,000 for one!

Late 05' not 06' though there is really no difference.

From what I understand, that car has been sold.

I have one for sale at $500,000! :rofl

FBA, Frank Barba, a member here in PA has had his white car for sale. Search for some posts by him.

LOL - Not looking to pay 500K for one of these puppies...unless it has a value well over that, which I frankly, don't see... :)
From what I've read, the pulley /tune will give me exactly what I want. If I want more power than that, I'll hop on my ZX14 and pull some 8 second quarters...LOL
The one car I did see here that kind of fit my bill, just got sold on E-bay, but it was an '05 and I want the 06...so I'll keep looking! I was also asking about the nanny's - there are none, right? Thanks to you and others for the information - I'm still learning about this car...have much to learn - obviously!

Whoops :O

I just saw you have a lower mileage white/blue with Red calipers as well.

Forgot to ask - how does a 6'2" 225 LB guy fit into one of these? My Viper sucks with the top up - need to lower the seat...does the GT suffer from the same issue? How bad is head and legroom?
