Motor Oil Choices?

I am not sure how easy it will be to get my local Ford dealer to provide the exact specified Motorcraft oil for the GT.

Is there any reason not to consider a synthetic oil of the same specified viscosity from one of the reputable synthetic suppliers such as Mobil 1; Penzoil; or Castrol? ( I am assuming I can find such oil on the shelf at a major chain auto supply store. )

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks

Pretty easy to get from any Ford dealer. The Shellby GT500 use the same oil. AFAIK, only Castrol 5w-50 the only one sold in the US in that weight.

Order from Torrie. There is a big oil thread here, with many lines of BS from Indy GT expounding his knowledge. It is worth a read.

If your local ford dealer doesn't have it - he can order it. It's really not a big deal.

(If MY local Ford dealer can order/get it [and he HAS], ANY Ford dealer can! Believe me! :rofl)

You DID NOT drive your car enough to actually need to change the oil :eek

I stock it and sell it by the quart if needed email me [email protected]

Thanks Frank !

That is so true. However, EP changed the oil once a year as the owners manual says to do. Of course the oil he dumped out was as good as new, having only delivery miles.

the Owner's Manual is very specific regarding our 5.4L SC engine.

Oil = Motorcraft 5w-50 full synthetic

Ford Motorcraft oil is made and bottled by Conoco.

5w 50 that meets Ford spec WSS-M2C931-B.

FordGTForum.com - Famous Member quote:

Ford WSS-M2C931-A spec (API service "SL") oil was the original formulation and comes with a "black" cap on the bottle. The newer WSS-M2C931-B oil (API service "SM") has reduced amounts of “ZDDP” wear resistant additive which has been linked to high mileage converter fouling and comes with a gold colored cap. I would think by now most of the "A" oil in inventory has been consumed as the switch to "B" oil was made quite some time ago. Both are equally acceptable in our engines and the newer "B" API SL oil has been reviewed (and tested) by the engine engineering team for acceptance.

Use the lubrication fluids Ford recommends for both the engine AND (very important) the transaxle as well. You will thus have much more time available to worry about something else.. (and your engine and transaxle will be happy). Note, I do not work for Ford nor do I have any financial gain in promoting the use of their fluids.

Do a forum search, there is GOOD detail information on Oil.
