Well I took the plunge last night and made a deal with Shelby for a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Livery with all options. I'm currently on expat assignment in Jakarta, Indonesia and was looking to buy an Ariel Atom when I came across a used one at Elite Autos' website. Looking through their inventory I started seeing these beautiful cars called Ford GT. My interest in the Ariel quickly moved to a higher plane and I started the process of learning what I could about this car and why so many people have it on their top list of cars to own.

I’m sure my wife felt like I was busy watching internet “porn” as for the last several days have been constantly on the computer reading the Ford GT Forum, watching youtube videos and just looking at Ford GT sale info from across the country. Since I’m living halfway around the world where the majority of GT reside, I quickly had to decide if I wanted to do a long distance, internet based purchase or just wait until my posting ended and start the search upon coming back. I would probably have said the best way forward would be to wait, but a past year near death experience has changed my thinking process and I decided that to wait maybe carried more risk than purchasing car unseen and un-driven by me. I will probably get comments about ok here is another buyer who hasn’t even driven one, and will be selling it shortly down the road. I hope that is not the case as the Ford GT has within the last week truly gotten my car bug juices flowing again. My view this will be a long and lasting affair just like my marriage with my wife where we will be celebrating our 35th year of marriage.

I have joined the Ford GT Forum and so far it has been a wonderful experience and it appears a great group of participants. One of the reasons I decided to go with the GT. I look forward to joining as many group gatherings as possible once I come back to the States. Until then I will read the forum postings, look at pictures of my car “Magic Carpet Ride” and live my GT life from afar. I’ve named my car “Magic Carpet Ride” because that was a song I remember from my first ever rock concert where Steppenwolf played either in 1969 or 1970. I think the song captures how I anticipate the car will feel to me as if I’m on a magic carpet ride.

I would like to say the dealings with Elite Autos and Shelby have been great and probably would not have done this with any other dealer, but based on what I read on the forum he is a true GT enthuisit and an honest person to deal with. I was in an initial stage of asking Shelby about the MSO Heritage he had, but since I was in my early stages of discovery not able to commit when needed. Looks like DBK’s father beat me out on that one. The one I’m getting sounds very good too and I didn’t miss on this one.

Sorry for the lengthy first post, but wanted to get my story out on the Forum.

Thanks,
Magic :driving:

congrats on your purchase! Also, you happen'd to have purchased the fastest color GT!!! Of course, my opinion on this is absolutely biased......:rofl

^^^ Haha, I agree with Ed!!! Congrats on your magic carpet ride, your wedding anniversary, and welcome to the GT fraternity. You're gonna love it here, it's second only to actually driving your car!!!

Congrats on the purchase Magic. Are you going to ship the car to Indonesia? If so, are there roads where you can enjoy it?

The car will be staying in the US. I have a driver and am not allowed to drive in Indonesia. With so many motorbikes and a crazy way of driving there is no way I would consider bringing over or driving here. They do have several high dollar sports cars around which you see mainly on Sundays. Have heard that these guys also go out in the early weekend mornings to do high speed runs on the toll roads when no one else is out. Majority of the roads have issues with potholes and the like. They do have a track south of Jakarta, Sentul International Circuit, which you could rent and race on, but paying luxury tax to get the car in the country just wouldn't be worth it.

Coming back will probably start off in The Woodlands, TX and then see from there, but it will most likely be Texas. Lived in Alaska for almost 3 years and wife has said no more cold climates.

Congratulations and welcome to the group!

CONGRATS and welcome to our lil' asylum! :thumbsup:thumbsup :cheers

BTW, many here on the 'Forum bought their GT without driving it first (myself included). That's not at all uncommon.

Where will your GT 'reside' until you arrive stateside?:confused

She will rest here until he is ready! :)

Magic: Welcome to the fraternity.

The FGT is a very special car. You have a special experience waiting for you when you return and take your first drive and see it in person the first time. :thumbsup:cheers

I love Steppenwolf. Brings back wonderful memories of yesteryear for sure. I usually play music from the '60s when I drive my gal. Thats the magic era as far as I'm concerned when it comes to cars and the FGT brings a classic legend from that era back to life.

Either hit from Steppen Wolfe fits the FGT perfect. "Magic Carpet Ride" or "Born to be Wild".

Enjoy.

congrats, and welcome to the site. you have made the right decision in the car and the dealer you chose for you transaction, as everyone here already know, shelby is by far the best guy to deal with especially when there is no opportunity to see the car or inspect it in person, you will not be disappointed!
