What is the best tire for the GT?

I will be needing tires soon and it looks like we are very limited on what tires we can use on our cars. I have heard Bridgestone makes a set for the GT, but the Tirerack does not show them in our size! What tire have you guys been going to when it is time to replace your worn tires? I am looking for better traction rather than a tire that will last a long time!

Some are running the 345x35x19 rears. But if you want the best traction and short life the Hoosiers are the way to go.

Just replaced my tires 250 miles ago and very happy with the Bridgestones. Very noticable change in ride and handling. :thumbsup:thumbsup

Hi Joe, let me know how you like the new Bridgestones after you put some miles on them. I know and have dealt with Jon in the past. He is a pretty good guy to deal with.

I'm ready to replace the original F-1 tires to Bridgestone RE05a 255-40-18 front and RE05a (Scuderia) 345-35-19 back. I have a questions for those who have switched to Bridgestone. There are 3 different RE050As listed at TireRack and I would like to see which one did you end up with:

Potenza RE05a Pole Position, with a 95Y rating;
Potneza RE05a, with a 95Y rating; and
Potenza RE05a, with a 99Y rating.

In particular, I'm more interested to know between the Pole Position vs the non-Pole Position, since I understand the difference between the 95Y vs 99Y rating.

Also, I know normally "size does matter" :wink, but in this case, I'm opting for the 255 instead of the 265 because I'm afraid the front might rub against the wheel well (my car has the optinal BBS rims and is not lowered, yet...), especially since I occasionally take the GT on track and it wouldn't be good news if the rub at speed and cause a blow out.....

Not so much replying to the thread but just hoping a tire manufacturer (Michelin,....are you listening?) is out there reading. Would someone please make a good riding, long lasting, reasonably priced(in relation to others) highway alternative to the crap for life, soft Goodyears? I could care less about tracking my cars and I actually drive it. If the 20s on my Chev SS pu can last a decent life why can't there be a factory Ford GT size alternative. Not everybody cares about soft compound, sticky tires. The 20s on my Ply Prowler have 20K on them and still going. 8K on rears and 16K on fronts with the Ford GT is ridiculous.

I don't think the GY are soft at all. They wear quickly because the stock tread depth is less than most tires. My guess is the tread is shallow to prevent chunking of the tires while aggressively cornering and to get the 205 MPH speed rating it had to be "shaved" from the factory.

I agree - and on the last set of rears, I got 13,000 - almost at the start of the wear bars!! And that includes Las Vegas Motor Speedway at Rally III. Just stop burning rubber at stoplights and you should do as well.

I never get more then 5000 miles out of very good supercar tire. I never looked but I'm sure there must be a hard tread out there for those that want it. And I agree, the GY tread is harder then anything I have ever had on a supercar.

Personally I find the Goodyears truly horrible! They are hard and certainly don't grip that well in typical British weather conditions (i.e genrally quite cold and sometimes damp!)

By the same token the Michelin SP2's that have been recommended for when I fit non-stock rims are also very poor - I felt they were the weakest component on my Carrera GT.

I want to find a way of getting some decent Pirelli's onto the FGT!

Do a search .There has been a lot said on the subject.
Hoosiers are my choice .Its like getting free H.P. ,better brakes, and increased cornering capabilities
Also realize they did testing with Ford for the Gt .
