stock airbox

Is the bottom of the stock airbox supposed to look like this?

I was looking at it the other day and the welds on the bottom didn't look very "factory" so it got me wondering.
 
my airbox does not have the metal on it like that.
 
It's absolutely not like mine. It appears to have been modified.
 
Looks like someone is trying to get cooler air into the motor
 
Neat, just dont block those side vents... unless you like stalling out at stop signs.......:thumbsupgtjoey 1314:thumbsup
 
mine has carbon fiber surrounding it no welds!:wink
 
Great. I guess I need to PM Torrie about getting a new one.

I wonder if this is something the previous owner did.

anyone got a pic of their's?

trying to figure out if this is hurting performance in any way. You cant see the bottom of the airbox while it is on the car so is the $700 expense worth it otherwise?
 
I am assuming this is something you guys have done to the airbox for your twin turbo mod...., No?

No.

My tuner actually asked me if I had done it myself or had any knowledge of what happened.

Now I am trying to figure out if it is actually going to hurt anything and whether I should buy a new one from Torrie.

Now I'm even more confused why someone would do this. Looks to be the same shape before/after, just metal instead of plastic.
 
From the pictures it looks like someone just added metal heat shields. Can they not be removed?
 
That's what it looks like to me, they welded heat shields then riveted them to the stock box.

are you positive this car has not been modified other than this before you got it? See any extra holes and mounting "stuff"?

The previous owner also had some pieces made to actually block some of the vents in the clamshell, I'm assuming to block "hot air" from coming in. :eek

so this would not shock me
