air inlet stiffner install issues

Hi,

I had the dealer to install the AccuFab xpipes and air inlet support sleeve early this week. The x-pipes were installed without any hick ups. However, the dealer said they couldn't insert the support sleeve because there is already one come from the factory and they could remove the existing one.....

What is the easiest to remove the existing support inside the tube? I did a search yesterday, while there were plenty of discussions on the sleeve, but I couldn't find any thread discussing the installation.

By the way, the xpipes sound great!

There is no existing support just slide the new one inside the Airbox to TB tube.

There is definitely one in there. when I squeeze the middle of the tube and the top end of the flexible part of the tube at the air box' end, I can feel there is a support in it, but it appears that that support is just too short to support both sides of the flexible sections of the tube.

I had the same problem. I got so pissed after trying and struggling to put the support in, only to find out that it had a small stiffener that blocked the installation. My solution to the problem and my frustration was to put the air inlet on the ground and stomped on it to crack the stock stiffener. No problems with the install after that! Be sure to line up the PCV holes on the new stiffener. Mine didn't line up as well as I liked, so I enlarged one of the holes.

Yea, I had the same problem as well as Mike (mad in nc) so when the gt guys came in town they both laughed their a$$ of at us because we installed the new tube with the existing one still in there:ack (man was that a pain to do). You will need to remove the inner support and install the new one. I watched Rich do this and he sure did make it look easy.:rofl:rofl:rofl

I know that I am a bit late to this issue nevertheless I spray Windex or another soapy solution within and then have no issues popping the OEM sleeve out and then with the same solution slide and fit the new one into position

Yep - to pe2unia's point "CANT FIX STUPID"

Factory sleeve comes with and has a 2"-2.5" stiffner in there.... It does not work. Use Windex to grease it up - yank it out and place the new one in the sleeve, again using Windex which will evaporate!

Not sure what the heck the mechanic at the dealer was talking about..... I just did it (with all your advise), from opening up the clamshell to closing the clamshell it took all but 20 mins and I'm sure I'm slow! Best part, I didn't even need to use any Windex or 409!

BTW, what are the 2 "larger" hoses connected to the driver side of the inlet for (i'm completely mechancially challenged).

I have AnalogDesigner's rings in my air intake and didn't need to remove anything.
