Friends,
Sometimes in life numbers have a certain meaning and its funny if one waits for his moment it will come. Since the Ford GT 1st came out for me it was love at 1st sight! I live here in AZ and since 2004 I have only seen 5 total GT,s and it was 5 different colors. I know when these cars 1st arrived on the seen some buyers were paying 100K over sticker. This car was a dream car and a goal I wanted to achieve. I was lucky enough to see a few GT,s at auctions here in AZ and I would just be in awe standing next to this steel muscle machine. I would tell my friends for yrs thats the car I want but I can't right now till I sell my 2 old Shelbys. ( 67 GT 500 & 69 GT 500 )
This story would take my journey almost 3 yrs to complete but I never lost sight of the dream car. I have in my office 4 different pictures of Ford GT,s and I have 2 pics on my frig in the garage. I guess if you want something bad enough you must have a visual of the goal in mind.
I was like a kid anytime I would see this beast of a car coming down the road at me. I would scream out YAAAAAAA that's my car..man I can't wait till the time is here. In my spare time I would search E-Bay/cars.com/ Autotrader to keep up on the prices. When I see my car come up on the market I would be sad knowing it wasn't time yet. Yes my dream car if I could ordered it back then would have been this combination! 2005 GT Black, no stripe/ red calipers/Mac player/ BBS wheels. When I see this car pop up I,d view all the web pics and copy the good pics for my computer and just look and dream.
Well my day was coming ,little did I know. For about 2 yrs I was trying to sell my old Shelbys and finally I did! the 67 sold July 14th and the 69 sold July 17th,WOW two in one week. I so thankful and now I said to myself hey lets look for the car!
On July 25th I spotted a car on E-Bay and a link to a web site for a car Broker out of Tampa Fla by the name of Jeff Sterns and Tom Lapoint. I spoke to Jeff on a Friday and I stated Jeff how much do I need to seal this car? He stated he was selling this car for a local guy and Jeff stated a price.
I went out Friday night for a few beers and told some friends I found the car I want. It was now sinking in that hey I have enough money from the Shelbys to get this awesome sex machine.I felt this car would make any red blooded American smile from 100 yards! Saturday morning I called Jeff and we agreed on a price and a hour later I wired the 5K deposit. Tuesday I wired the rest of the money and my dream car was in process. A buddy said to me man you excited and I stated no but I will when it arrives and is in my garage. I felt that since I waited so long I would hold off my excitement till this dream car was parked in stall number 2.
Sorry for being so long in details but when a person is lucky enough in life to purchase such a car of / history/class/speed/distinct style and grace its takes awhile. So now this story is about numbers which some people like me feel that some numbers have a magic meaning. My birthdate is in April and on the 8th day 1958. So when I was arranging the delivery date of my car we were hoping for the mid week of Aug 6th but I said to friends hey it gets here when it gets here. I waited for almost 3 yrs a few days more is ok for me.
Well here we go......my car arrives on 8-8-2008 at a little after 8:30pm on a Friday night. Friday night is my play night BUT not tonight ,I have a special gift about ready to arrive! I thought cool what a neat delivery date I would never forget this day, the day my dream car shows up 8-8-8.
Now I,am on this great web site I wanted to get the SVT papers and break down of my car. I wanted the day the car was made and how many were made just like mine. I ordered the GT cerification kit and it arrives on Friday Aug 15th and I was looked through the kit I started to get chills when I read this......My dream car..yes the exact car would of ordered back then was built on 4-8-2005! I looked again and again and it was on my exact birth day. Its like my car was built and in 3yrs from now its yours! WOW....!!!
I have told this story only a few times and it stll seems unreal..
I thank all you GT owners for the time I took up for this post BUT now I,am on the road when my 2005 Black GT having the time of my life. So if you ever want something that bad it can and will happen just don't give up.
The surprise you will get is worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks guys

BillyRay, Great story. Many members of this Great Forum have very unusual stories as yours about their dream coming true. Dreams do come true and life is great. Love your new dream and be careful with it, respecting its power, and share its existance by allowing others to see and enjoy it. As I say often these days, "It doesn't get any better than this". Welcome Billy Ray, you're lucky to be in the land of some very special GT owners.

Sometimes in life numbers have a certain meaning.........

Billy Ray Hunter,

Next month, in September, we will have a gathering of over 40 Ford GT's here in Scottsdale. True to your lucky number the event will start on the 8th. (9-8-08) Look at the Scottsdale Rally to the Rally thread for details. I expect you to join us and please PM or call me with any questions. Congratulations and welcome.

Welcome Billy Ray. I have a friend with 2 old shelbys, another with an original Boss 302 with 34,000 miles on it.

Every time I see them I beg them to do what you did. They could both probably get close to GT money by selling their vintage cars.

Most of us had 60s era musclecars at some point in our lives. I almost bought a 69 GT500 a few years back. Sitting in it is what stopped me. I immediately bought an 03 (Terminator) SVT Cobra. It was faster, quieter, and way more reliable.

The GT is even better than the cobra as far as ownership satisfaction. Thank you for your post. I'm going to email it to my buddies to try to pry them out of their vintage iron.

Enjoy your ride.

To thank you for your article I have a pm for you. It will make you love your care more than you do today.

Chirs.

The GT is one car whose excitment in owning just doesn't wear off. It makes my heart beat faster and puts a smile on my face every time I look at it.

Its just that kind of a car and they don't come along that often in history.

Congrats and enjoy your gal!

Your story is much like mine,:cheers I sold a GT350 I had for 34 years and kept the project car. My dad is the reason I am such a car nut. He took pics of me in the 67 LeMans car he had on his dealership showroom and had one on his office wall ever since. He took me to school in all the cool Ford's through the years and helped me buy a 69 Shelby after the sentence of driving a Pinto for a year.

Someone actually approached me on buying my car. I talked to my dad about it as it was as tough decision, he helped me buy the car, I dated my wife in that car, etc. When I brought it up, he said "sell it, you had a great time with it, but it's just sits there now". Just buy the GT . So, when I bought mine I arranged the sale date to match his birthday, so I would never forget. It was his 89th birthday. This was taken when the car arrived.

Sorry to encroach on your thread. My dad has not been doing so well the last couple weeks, your story made me a little sentimental.

We could use more sentimental people in the world. Great photos and obviously a great Dad. Hope he is doing better :cheers

Thanks for the response!!!

Here,s a few pics of the 8-8-08 delivery date. Its funny there was a guy in the parking lot who sat on his hood of his car and watch this Beast being backed out of the truck. He was probably about 40 yards away and like I stated earlier this car will and can stop people in their tracks. THe guy never came over but sat there and stared at the black beauty of a land rocket.
My buddy also showed up with his two boys, 10 and 12 yrs old. These kids were going wild listening to the motor purr and I let each one seat in the passenger seat. I bet yearsssssssssssssssssssssss down the road they,ll say Dad remember your friend with that awesome black GT???? man that was cool!!! Thanks for all the imput and I LOVE you guys to tell your story. I truly believe only a handful of us will EVER getthe chance to own or even see one of these cars. Like I stated I have only seen in the Phx area 5 GT,s and they were, White/ blue stripe...Yellow-black stripe...Red no stripe...Tungsten silver stripe....Black, silver stripe.......Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!! BRay

I get a error message, I guess the pic is to large to download.
