I am 6'7" and head room is a problem in a stock GT. I live in Northern California near Grass Valley / Nevada City (about an hour from Sacramento). Anyone have a dropped seat in Northern California that would allow me to sit in thier car.

Thanks, Ray

Ray,
You have a couple options. You can send your seat out to Genadi designs, they are the group that makes the GTX1 conversion. Among other things, they also lower GT seats by removing some of the material in the bottom cushion. You really can't get them much lower at all on the rails.
they charge $1,410 per seat, plus you have to pay shipping.

A second option would be to have a local upholstry shop do it for you.
I had a local shop in NJ do mine & it came out very nice, you cant really notice it unless you look for the difference.
There is a member on the west coast Race Deck that had a west coast shop do his. He said it came out great.

Even by removing the padding from the seat the improvement, from what I have been told is not that great. An 1-1 1/2 inches. If that is not enough then this may not be an appropriate option for you.

I don't own a car I'm just looking. I sat in one but my head was up against the headliner. It would not be comfortable/safe to drive. I have also tried a Viper Coupe and Z06. The Viper would also need the seat to be lowered because my left knee hits the dash. I fit OK in the Z06 although like all cars it's tight for guys my size. I own a 90 ZR-1 but find the seats to be very uncomfortable. Z06 seats are much better.

I really like the looks and exclusivity of the Ford GT but would want it to be comfortable to drive before I spend that kind of money. I also wish there was a bit more storage. If you leave out the car cover can you get enough storage for trips? Putting things behind the seat won't work since I need the seat all the way back.

Saleen installs a Gurney bubble in the drivers door. I believe you can ship the door to them and then they ship it back if you dont want to go to Troy.

S-o-l

rm427, Sounds like unfortunately that the GT is not your cup of tea. While not enjoying your height advantage I am forced to make it through life on just my good looks. :biggrin Hope you get it figured out, how about a GTX-1 with the top off?

The answer is no. The compartment is quite small because of the shape of the hood. Also nothing can be placed in the compartment if it is impacted by heat as it gets quite warm.

Other choice is to FedEx clothes both ways, if a single stop trip. If multi-stop very very difficult. Passenger footwell can also be used.

I have my seat coushins (front and back) lowered about 1 3/4" inches by someone in the Los Angeles area. Anyone who wants to sit in my car is more than welcome. I'll post some pictures of the lowered seat soon.

Back at the time of this post Saleen had said they had done 10 "Gurney bubbles". I'm sure it's at least a few more by now.

Third choice...two words: Chase vehicle.:biggrin

pack a couple of back packs with a couple of days clothes ... then fedex some to your final destination. Have done that on several cross country GT trips .. works just fine.

Bubble

Not to totally highjack this thread but we thought we would shart one of our latest projects that hopefully we will do more of. Our version of the bubble. This one is for one of our customers that wanted more headroom with his helmet. We planning on offering this for just under $4000.

I have been talking with Saleen about this. The door has to be matched to the car before it is painted if you are not going to use your current door.
