Wireless radar detector opinion?

Gents - I am a fan of the Valentine One radar detector. A new addition to the garage is in need of similar protection from over zealous local revenue generators. Unfortunately, reaching a cord from windshield to cigarette lighter is very intrusive and cumbersome at best in this particular case.
A friend has a wireless Passport and likes it, but I've heard from someone they dont' work too well? I don't have anyone nearby to hardwire or do a custom install right now, so any thoughts/experience on the wireless radar detectors are appreciated.

I have gotten the hardwire kit for everycar including lamborghini ect. It is cheap and easy for someone to install. If you have a stereo or car alarm shop or anything of the sort it is a very simple install. The V1 is by far the best RD out there.

I use Invisacord w/my V1 - http://www.invisicord.com/index.html

5 minute install.
Always left on because it turns off automatically with the interior lights

x2 for the invisacord, 5 minute install, and cord plugs into mirror and turns itself on and off automatically. Best $20 I spent on the car.

All my vehicles have the V1 wired into the mirror power. I have an older vehicle with no power at the mirror so I have it wired under the roof upholstery.

All I own are V1s but I am disappointed that there have been very few upgrades in the last few years.

I for one would like the unit to memorize the false positives and refuse to be triggered by them over and over. I believe one of the competitors offers this using GPS technology. :bored

I like the V1 it has saved me many times on the roads, but pretty useless in urban area, especially in the SF Bay Area. The gov. has radar road sensor all over the place.

Can't LEO hide near what your think is a false positive site and still nail you with a radar gun?

Look for a thread year, from long ago, about installing a V1. It's pertinent to all radar detectors. The install is very easy and easy to do yourself. Would take about an hour. Hardest part is getting into the fusebox in the passenger footwell because of the black goo they used to seal the overlay clear plastic. I'm an Escort guy and have been for many years. All the GT trips we've taken over the years, I see no difference between the 8500 and the V1.

Is it the 8500 that uses the GPS to minimize false alarms/

No, the 9500. Mine is the older 8500 but tried and true. The 9500 came out years later.

I have the battery operated escort solo I think it's called. Used it a few times but wasn't really sure it was useful. Then I was stuck in a construction back up near Baker CA on the 15. Going 5 miles an hour for at least 10 minutes. Detector started going crazy when I was 3 car lengths from a parked cop. Obviously the radar had been on the whole time, and I had been in line a long time, but it did not pick it up until that close. Maybe it was laser that was blocked by other cars? I don't know but that was the last time I used it.

Take a look at Stinger DSi. I have this fit to my GT - the card version I might add. I had a rear view monitor and the card systen fit in leiu of the radio/cd. Never listened to music as engine note is best music of all. Looking to hook MP3 player just in case want to listen to music when cleaning :)
