Why do you own it?

There WILL be a next owner and I'm sure they will appreciate your keeping the car "pristine"(be it before or after your death). I definitely do not like things that depreciate. That is a very annoying word. It is nice to know that the GT is hopefulyy not in that category just in case I might need the money before my death. But I will be damned if I'm going to freak out over a door chip or a spotless undercarriage. My car may never be at Pebble Beach in my lifetime, but it keeps me smiling every minute I'm in it. GT's are "special", but my psychiatrist says I am "special" too. I truly enjoy the car and am blessed to be able to own one, but if something happened to it I could always get another one. Hmmmm.......maybe I should start looking for another one now! Hey thanks again for making me think about this. Multiple GT's.......as good as multiple orgasms?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RE: Previous post from Mid-engine man.
If you think the GT is "just another car", then you should trade yours in for a BMW 750 or some other depreciating status symbol. GT's are an automotive milestone, a part of history. I would love to drive mine more often, but having restored a few cars owned by reckless previous owners, I'll be preserving mine with limited use, special high speed occassions only. For those of you racking up the miles, thanks! You are making mine (and Empty's) that much more valuable. I plan to drive no more than 1000 miles per year. I waited over forty years to get a Supercar and I won't be letting mine go to anyone while I'm on this planet. I'm not worried about having fun with it before the next owner, there won't be a next owner. You don't see Ferrari Owners racking up 15,000 miles a year (I know about the cam belts), and GT's are far more special than a 360/430. For those of you modifying their GT's, it makes for fantastic reading! Please think of original 427 Shelby's or Vette values and keep those original parts. Some day that original muffler will be worth a fortune. Everyone needs to enjoy their cars in their own way, but at least appreciate them when they are unique. We are lucky to own them.

I've owned my F430 for 18 months and have 23,000 smiles on it. I bought my GT 6 weeks ago and I have 1300 smiles on it. They are meant to be driven and give enjoyment!

I know of two people with two GTs each. One guy uses one for track driving, and the other for road. The other has a heritage in the wrapper and a Tungsten that he drives.

I would like to have a Heritage.

Bob at Team Motorsports has a nice one and I think Shelby has one also.

Look up either both are excellent. I bought one from Bob and am working with Shelby.

SO that is where I am at in it

You Ask : Why Do You Own It?

Question: Why Do You Own It?

Answer: I Just LOVE This Thing.

Love is a very complicated emotion.

So, the true answer is also very complicated.

It is beyond all logic.

One cannot understand, nor feel the inter workings of another’s own specific emotions.

But I can assure you that the Dream, the Passion, the Mystery, and the Romance is reason enough.

I agree with Empty pockets. The GT is llike a fine wine or cognac. It is to be savored. I love my MarkIV red and wouldn't trade it for any other color. But color choice and favorites are very subjective. I would add another GT if circumstanes permitted but with 3 kids and college looming for one it will have to wait. Realistically.

The GT is one of the most awesome cars in the world. Hands down. It makes my heart race just looking at it. It never fails to garner smiles, thumbs up, people takign pictures, admirers no matter where you go.

I'm caught between wanting to enjoy it, drive it and keeping it perfect. I understand that with driving comes the usual wear and tear. Scratches, paint nicks and all the aggravations that come with use. I understand that no car can stay perfect if you are going to drive it. But its such a work of automotive art and an automotive masterpeice and benchmark its painful when you find even the smallest mark, nick etc...But as the saying goes you can't have your cake and eat it too, at least with one GT. The answer is clearly two GTs. one for driving one for framing.

I'm not lucky enough to own two GTs but I consider myself pretty damn lucky to own one GT. Its one of approximately 3500 (after considering attrition) in the entire WORLD. Thats pretty special by any standard. I have the poster of Dan Gurney's MarkIV red GT at the start of LeMans and one of the red Filipinetti Scuderia GTs framed on the wall in front of where I park my red GT and every time I look at those pictures and look at my red GT right in front of them I think "how cool is this". The GT is an automotive icon whose forefather was also an automotive icon. Like father like son. It makes you proud to be American!

I love my GT and I have to say all the guys I've met and coversed with that own GTs are class acts. Great cars seem to attract great people.

I drove mine on Sunday - representing the GT at the Goodwood Breakfast Club.

7am, crisp morning, GT freshly waxed - ker-POW along country roads with nothing else on them except tarmac, me and the GT.

Fantastic.

It's easy to forget just how quick this car is! I loved it all over again.

Indeed, some beautiful roads, wish I was there riding shot gun :)
