Picked up a product when I was in EU that is awesome for painting the letters on the GT's tires. Does not gray out or crack like the duplicolor stuff. Just found the link on line and here it is....http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/other/tirepaint.htm

I give it an A++++++

Steve

Thanks for the post. Looks like good stuff. Please post some photos of your white lettering.

I've also been looking for tire paint to paint my tires lettering as well and the Duplicolor product sucks. I also saw the White Tire Paint on mbzponton and contacted the seller in Finland. Looks like it's $20 a can plus $40 to ship to the US. If you already tried it, can you please post some close-ups of the tires and how did you prep the tire prior to painting? What kind of brush did you use? I don't want brush strokes.

The Westley's Bleach White shown in that link is a very good product as well IMO. I have used it for a long time now on black wall tires. It rids the old 'Armor All' or like tire gloss and all the dirt that had been attracted and leaves the tires very clean. If you reapply new tire gloss afterward it shines much better, but it is not necessary, the tires will stay clean and not attract dirt as with just the cleaner, just not glossy. It can be found at Autozone and most auto part stores... Stan

Jdoc,

I use a testors model paint brush to apply it. It takes three coats about a day apart. No cracks, no stress ... its a bit thinner than other paints but goes on easy.

Maybe we can get a few people who want it together and do a group buy/ship. I picked up a can in Germany and shipped it back with some business related stuff. If we get a few people together to split the international then its just usps 7.00 from there.

I'll post a pic later on ... am taking the car to the track this weekend and will give a report post event. So far it looks awesome.

I'm wondering if this would hold up on a bias ply slick for drag racing. The expansion amount is considerably more during the burnout. On most of the slicks I go through, one side is painted inside the lettering from the factory, the other not. The one side that is, for some reason the paint is always outside the actual lettering ridges and it's just a small pet peeve I have lol. It'd be great to see a pic Steve... Stan

My tires are almost toast so I thought I would give this a try. This is what it looks likes after a day. I am a little concerned that it will dull after a few outing but I will let you know.

Fubar,

What did you use? I can tell you the duplicolor will dull and turn brown. The testors paint will crack in a few miles and elastomeric paint will bubble.

so far the paint I mentioned earlier is still going strong after my track day and a few hundred miles.

I'm going to order a case and break it down from there if anyone is interested drop me a pm and we'll work something out. The can that the paint comes in is about a pint in size. I'm still using what is just on the lid so .. a split is easy and economical.

Be careful with this stuff. It is a fine product in itself but on my painted wheels it left bleach spots. I am planning on having my wheels repainted because of this. :thumbsdow Just be sure you get it off quickly and completely.

Steve,
I think I used the Duplicolor. I will check when I get home. I like the look so I am in for a can of the good stuff. I'll send you my money whenever you’re ready to get an order together.

Looks great Fubar. Completes the retro look. Too bad Goodyear doesn't make the tires with white lettering on one side.

I'll take a pint too when in get's in! Let me know

I tried the Duplicolor quite a while ago. Loved the effect but it cracked, flaked and turned brown as stated above.

If this new stuff will hold up, I'm in for whatever quantity you break it down to. It gives a much more authentic look to the car.

Ordered eight cans. Have a case of empty model paint vials coming in too. I can split it or do a whole can. Will post the cost when it gets here should be in a week or two.

I am happy to announce that the white tire paint that I picked up overseas has past the durability test.

This paint has not yellowed, cracked or faded. It also passed the wash and scrub test!

I posted the link in another post but have order some in and will break it down into small bottles here in a week or so.

Steve, How long has it been on the tires? How many miles?

about two weeks and over 500 miles. But it also looked that good after 11 heat cycles on the track.

If it's not too much trouble, I would like some too.

Well, I'd like to bragg alittle here and say I was the first to add the paint to my tires prior to rally I.... but Seeing that Steve has been wanting to up his post count.... I thought that I'd give you a fire to add some fuel too ( add posts)

Well done on the research.... would love some of the good stuff... I usually keep a pen in my driver seat pocket to re touch the tires when I can...

Yes keep me ont he list for a small bottle please.

The duplicaolor stuff if pretty poor quality tire paint. And comming from me and my Michellin post, that's saying something. :willy
