My suspicion is either what Mark said about the small window..

^^ this. Laser 'beam' is just 3' across at 1000'. If they hit your plate, there is a good chance that you won't know about it. Even if you do, it's too late.. by the time your detector goes off, the cop has his reading.

Check local laws concerning ownership/use of laser and/or radar jamming equipment. In MN, it's a big no-no to Jam. My friend (AtomicZ) got pulled over in his Gallardo for unknowingly jamming the local State Patrol. (he had recently purchased the car and didn't know the system 'jammed'). Officer made him disable the system on the side of the road and subsequently turn the system hardware in within 10 days (aka confiscation). YMMV.

Yep, smart radar is the best way to beat laser IMHO. I have switched from being a long-time V1 user to the escort Smartradar.

Looks like a cool unit - even links to use the iPhone as a display!

Yeah, I use. It is only really effective in metropolitan areas. You need a solid user base to relay signals but it automatically transmits Ka and laser alerts to the network so you can see them miles before you get there. It also feeds traffic info, which can be handy when your in the GT and modern Nav services are not available.

That's interesting. I have been a hardcore V1 user for years.
