Whatya Think????

I think it ties in very well with the nostalgic look. Nice job!

well, since I couldn't find a single place in Sacramento that had tire paint, I relied on the web. After I received what was described as 'tire paint to paint the raised letters on the tires white', I prepped the tires and tested the product. Unfortunately it sucked. I let the paint dry for a day but it would easily rub off with my fingernail. Even worse is that the company won't return my messages to return the product! Can any of you tell me the brand of the paint you're using? Mine is Markal - paint marker.

Dupli-color...Hot Tires, sold at Auto Zone.

Wow, I hadn't thought of anything like that. I like it!

We might have to reapply later down the line but it's still looking good. I'll post some more pics later. Also, it mentioned 2-3 coats and I have only applied 1 coat thus far.

PLEASE post PICS of your white walls when finished. I AM VERY INTERESTED IN SEEING THAT LOOK ON DIFFERENT COLOR SCHEMES OF THE GT.

Just finished one tire on my red car. Took about an hour to apply three coats which is what it took to cover completely. Looks great from 4 feet but if you look closely (like most people do at this car) it's a little rough. Is there a trick to getting it smooth? I applied the first coat thin and then the next two coats as heavy as I could so it would flow out smoothly. The paint is almost too thick to get right. I'll see how it looks in the morning before I do any more.

FYI, RWL's look very good on red.

I've been waiting for a post of a pic. Hope to see yours soon tex. It really isn't that bad, the paint will even out. I thought the same thing, good from far but rough from close up. I have had to point out the white walls to everyone. No one except my wife has pointed out the roughness at first. Now, it looks good and my tires actually need a wash. I really think a white grease pencil would probably work the best

It's too humid out here today to finish so I'll have to wait a day or two. The paint won't dry according to the directions if the temperature is wrong or it's too humid.

For those of you who are considering doing this, you should do it now before it gets too cold or you'll have to wait for Spring ( unless you have a heated garage like I know some of you rich bastards do!) :rofl

I'll try to take a picture of the one tire I've gotten done and post tomorrow.

I am going to get that paint for my tires. My white GT with blue stripes thanks you for the info.

I gotta tell you guys how excited I am that you like the look. I was worried that I'd get yelled at :biggrin Now I hope that you don't get bothered by how long it takes. The first coat seems to be the longest because we expect it to look white right away. It doesn't because of the black tire and the nature of the paint. Be patient.... you'll love it when its done. I worked on my 1st coat for a whole day and then 1/2 day. Back hurt for two days after... Oh well :cheers

Lets not get fanatical about this. I spent about an hour or a little more on my first tire and less on the second. Take a break between tires so you don't burn out.

I finally learned how to end up with a smooth finish. You have to apply a thin first coat so you can see your edges well. Then go back and apply a thick heavy coat starting at the top of the letter and work your way down, applying enough paint to almost fill the letter smooth with the edge. It's thick enough not to drip. One of the biggest things to a quality job is getting the edges sharp and straight. You've really got to color inside the lines on this one!

I find that old saying "everything I need in life I learned in Kindergarten" more true every day. Luckily I had a good coloring teacher. :biggrin

Took some pics but they are too big to post and I can't figure out how to resize them. Not very compooter literate I'm afraid. :confused

Tex, click on your pic once and then go to file and export it. When the window pops up export it as a jpg in the size 300 & 400 click ok. name it and send it to your desk top. Otherwise, send it to me at [email protected] and I'll see what I can do

Here is Tex's Car Finished. Thanks for sending those pics my way

It looks Great! Let me know how it holds up over time. I tried a crayon like pen on my motorcycle many years ago and the results didn't last too long.

Just curious, but can you put tire dressing (tire shine) over this without it bleeding or smearing?

It does say washable on the cover of the pen we used. I have washed my tires since.

How about an update. How have the white letters held up over the past couple of months?

Not well. It flaked off the first time I drove it. Maybe I installed it wrong but I wouldn't recommend it just because of the trouble. It was very time consuming. I wish it had worked because I loved the look but I'll wait for Goodyear to do it right.
