Want to lower your insurance premiums?

Somehow I don't think this policy would be appropriate for anyone owning a FGT, with the exception of EP.

Progressive Insurance has a plan that could save you up to 60% on your auto insurance premiums. There's only one catch -- they want to ride in the car with you.

The Detroit News reports, "Auto insurer Progressive Corp. has begun offering its drivers the chance to cut their costs based on how they actually drive, not only on their age, credit score and number of tickets or accidents on their record." The insurer wants to accomplish this with the help of "a high-tech monitoring device" that tracks driving behaviors like "jackrabbit starts and slam-on-the-brakes stops."

The device, according to the Press of Atlantic City, "plugs into the data port built into all cars made since 1996." IUT then "tracks all the parameters of travel, including speed, time, mileage and distance, as well as how frequently the brakes are used and how quickly the car stops, and "wirelessly transmits the data back to the company, which adjusts your insurance rates on how well - or poorly - you drive." Progressive spokeswoman Leah Knapp "said most drivers would expect to see 10 percent to 15 percent savings," though "some drivers could see rates increase by 9 percent." Under the MyRate program, all drivers would receive a 10% discount initially, simply for signing up for monitoring. Adjustments up or down could be made later, when the customer renews the policy.

My agent at AAA had such a box in her car for a test.... expect to see these programs being offered.

Torrie would sign up for this except for his datalogger is always attached to the OBDII port.

Sounds like an excellent program for Garage Queens!

(are you listening, EP?)

How about they base it on the last 5 or 10 years of your driving record.
Who cares if you speed if you don't have accidents. Who cares
if you excellerate quickly if you don't loose control. Who cares if you
live on the westside if your cars never get stollen!! These guys only base the rates on real life when it allows them to increase your rates. I haven't had a claim or and accident (knocking on wood) is probably 10 years but my rates have only gone up. I'm tired of paying for everybody else in my "risk category" while I keep racking up a perfect driving record! Sorry, I guess I have some pent up insurance related frustration. :lol Anybody else feel like they are taking advantage of us?

Aaaaaaaah, SHUDDUP, RALPHIE!!! :box:

Yeeew too, Clinton! :slap

I agree with John and 321. 'Far as I'm concerned, this is just another "big brother" move. Besides, how does anyone KNOW that said spy gear is honest?

Does this gear also have GPS tracking built in? And how would one know?

No thank you. I'm not a real Orwell fan...

This is good because not long after they come out with this technology someone will come up with another device that plugs between the OBD2 port and the insurance companies device to alter the info being sent to the insurance company.:banana:thumbsup

B O N Y.....please don't ban..but

As long as it does not become mandatory. I can see it now, I'll be on open stretch of highway doing 120-140 and get the call "your insurance is cancelled" :ack
Mike

Thank you for the laugh Crhis A. !:lol
I'm going to use that somewhere, sometime.

I think I will pass on being monitered. It takes a jackrabbit start of most cars to keep up with a slow start in the GT. So whos to say what a jackrabbit start is.

No GPS, even it if did it wouldn't get good sat reception in that location. But it can monitor all that a SCT Liveview can and transmit that info to the insurance company.

There is a whole section of industry in this country that exists to try and find something bad about you, so they can report it to some agency or company, and then you get a letter notifying you of an infraction or error from some monitoring company you have never heard of in Georgia!

1984 is here, my friends. Tell the Progressive Insurance Company to take a Flying F..K at a Rolling Donut. Give me another box of cartridges !@@@@ :bs

Great info!

My agent at AAA had such a box in her.....

I bet she did!! :biggrin

I can't think of a crazier (bad) idea than sharing that sort of personal info. Heck, if they saw some of our driving habits, they might double our rates !

Bony never breaks the laws of man or nature.

Take it Chris is not ready to sign up as a beta tester?
