VERY IMP. NEW GT RACE CARS FOR LEMANS

Chip, we are both on the same side. But if you agree that there is no advantage, and then list a number of incredible events in history that weere accomplished for a similar argument, then you must believe there is an advantage. My point is simply, they have already done it, and they did it for 4 years in a row as 1st place winners. Times change, what is the advantage in doing it again without a full company commitment and funding = a disater? We haven't been back to the moon either, but we did do it. I would love to see Ford GT dominate the Le Mans race for another 4 years, but the economics of it and the goal is not worth it for Ford. At least I believe that is their position, but since Bill Jr. and I are not on the phone every week, I have no idea. But the result of under funding, lack of company support and drivers, makes this an overwhelming wish that I don't believe will happen. And you can bet Ferrari would love to see Ford return and then fail.

An advantage

OK, here it is Atomic. You, me, Joey, and about 200 of our closest friends are sitting in the stands at the end of the Mulsanne straight. As a light blue speck first comes into sight the furious sound of a normaly aspirated Ford V-8 increases in volume until a new GT in Heretage livery (preferably #6) screams past at 200+. I get goose bumps just thinking about it.

No advantage for Ford as they can't sell any more GT's anyway. No financial advantage for anyone funding the effort. At this stage of my life most of the things I do are not for any advantage other than the personal satisfaction of doing them. And personal satisfaction is not what Ford needs right now. So the money would have to come from someplace other than Ford, just like it did in 1968 and 1969. During the 1980's I raised a lot of money for the United States Aerobatic Team to help pay the costs of sending them and their planes to Europe for the World Championships. Lycoming gave engines, companies gave money, and the U.S. Airforce loaned us a C5-A Galexy transport to get the planes there without taking them apart. No advantage to the Air Force or anybody else as there was zero TV coverage and almost no publicity. The team lost year after year until 1988 when they finally grabbed the gold ring. They have lost ever since but continue to go because they love to compete. Some people love to race, win or lose, they love the competition. As far as Ford is concerned Atomic, you are far more right than I am. And if you consider personal satisfaction an advantage, then there it is. Ahhh, but the thought of sitting at the end of the Mulsanne straight...............If somebody pulls it off, I hope we're both there. The drinks are on me. :cheers See you soon.

Ditto and well said, including the last thoughts! I would be cheering along with a large glass of Record 33 Bierre!

You guys are great! :biggrin Should they or shouldn't they. Advantages vs disadvantages. Etc, etc...

For a moment, let's forget about whether or not it would be a wise investment from a corporate (or sponsor's) standpoint & I think we can all agree that it would be COMPLETELY OFF THE HOOK to see the GT come back after its run in the 60's & compete again!! 2 GTs or 4, win or lose, who cares?! I know that many of us would fly out there w/the GTs to watch the race, give the guys (or girls) all our support, & just have a KICK A$$ TIME!!!!! :banana Our street GTs would dominate the streets, our excitement would have people turning their heads! And that's before the race even takes place! JUST IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO BE THERE!! DRIVING YOUR GT WITH A HUNDRED OTHERS IN THE STREETS OF FRANCE! Watching from the stands as the GTs rev up their engines & take off from the start, the cars making history all over again, JUST BY BEING THERE!!!! AND WE WOULD BE THERE with our energy to share in a special part of that! A unique bond we all share with a truly amazing American supercar! A legend! How cool is that? Bring it on Ferrari!!! :lol

Anyone who's talked to GTJoey for more than 30 seconds (which is probably everyone who went to the rally) knows that he's someone who could break through ANY barrier to get what he wants. :thumbsup The odds may be stacked against it, but if anyone could make this AWESOME event happen, I'd have my money on GTJoey! You go buddy!!! :cheers

...oops did I forget to mention that we cannot be any taller than one inch? Jokes aside, I believe some nut out there will have enough balls to put this car on the racing circuit

Ya just need Google, Oracle, Windows, Apple or Gulf Oil as a Sponsor and Mulsanne Straight, here we come! The Mulsanne Straight was broken into 3 sections in 1990 with mirror image chicanes to reduce overall straight line acceleration and conform to maximum FIA limits for striaght line distances.

It appears to be impossible from this view point that the driver of the above GT would have any rear view mirror view? But the car does look awesome!
