Once again I find myself turning wrenches. My 63 Corvette SWC is home from a three year visit to the bodyshop. I almost lost interest in her but I finally have her home.

The car has 60K miles on her and documented. Black/Black all #'s matching. PS/PB/PG 327/300 and a really nice cruiser that is awesome to drive. All original drive train with no smoke whatsoever.

I am personally polishing and refinishing as much of the original equipment on the car as much as possible. I would rather have something original and not so perfect over Chinese made crappy parts.

The drive train has been completely gone through - gaskets, plugs, hoses etc. The suspension has been gone through, parts powder coated and aligned perfectly. The radiator, steering column, starter, water pump, carburetor, pumpkin etc. rebuilt not replaced with re-manufactured parts. All new weather/rubber.

I don't care about NCRS but I want to get the car where it reflects my pride of ownership and not someone else's judgment. The car was owned by 2 guys before me and I spoke to both of them. The last guy was a doctor out of Venice Beach CA where he had parked it for the past 18 years and had owned it since 1967. The original black plates were found in the box of parts as well. The interior is the next step!

I find myself in my workshop most evenings until the wee hours of the night rocking away to old tunes with my trusted companion Diesel and his sister's ashes Delilah in its urn on my workbench. I miss her, but life is good!

ONE pic of the car is all we get???

ONE?

'Slacker...

(As I've mentioned B4 - 'great looking puppy! :thumbsup)

Super nice car. Reminds me of the 67 Silver Corvette Coupe 327 with fac a/c that I owned for 14 years. Corvettes are mucho bang for the buck, you can buy parts at 7-Eleven, the old ones appreciate......just great American eye-candy. So much better than Mustangs! OK....bring it on Mustang lovers!

Bravo Sam! Well done!

Sam, remember now... "righty tighty, lefty loosey" Don't forget!

Great looking ride, I agree requires more than one picture!

Nice!

Who's driveway is that? I think I recognize the flowers. lol

and yes, beautiful dog.

ironic Sam.... My present project is a 65 # matching roadster with PS/PW/Tint and PG w 327 300HP. I'm the fourth owner, 53421 miles and complete restoration with rebuilding of the parts. The project life of this one was a restoration that was started about 30 yrs ago and the person I bought the car from in ten years of ownership completed the frame rebuild where I took over. In the last 300 miles I had to put a new cam in as the 8th exhaust lobe was wiped. New Dash pads, rebuilt the Cluster and Radio, wiring harness's and had new 20+ year old Al Knoch seat covers installed. I did go for a new Dewitt radiator and the alternator was junk.

It is now in the paint shop and the infamous 70's flares in the rear are being restored to the classic C2 body lines. Hopefully I will see it before the end of summer.

What paint did you go with - not lacquer I hope?

I need to see an action shot! :) nice ride!

Hey Mike do you need a new windshield w/ tint. They shipped it by mistake and told me to keep it. As far as the paint goes I went with PPG 2 stage original black formula. 3 coats of paint with color sanding in between each coat and stopped at 2 coats of clear. Plenty thick, rich & deep in luster. It took me 3 days to get her running smoothly again after sitting in the body shop for almost 3 years. We re-bonded most of the fiberglass and fixed a lot of sagging. Fiberglass is a PITA when it gets old but the car is better in fit and finish than it was new. I wrestled with doing an NCRS level but then said F#$% it, I want to drive and enjoy the car. My last contemplation now is if I want to add vintage air.

Uhhh, there is no back seat in the car. Can I just wear my thongs and have my wife take a picture?

Sam,

Thanks for posting the picture of the Black/Black 63 SWC. Looks beautiful and since you are not going the NCRS route, IMO, build the car as it suits your preference. Let the next owner worry about any changes you make to the car. Your car is a fairly rare build option too. Congratulations on the restoration and having fun with this very iconic car. The 63 SWC turns as many heads as does the GT. The next time you take the car to a show, watch for people doing, what I call the "63 SWC Head Bob." This is where they will see the Vette and then duck their head down to look through the front windshield to see if in fact it is a SWC. DJ

:thumbsup
Bravo - Patina and time machine-esq qualities of 48 yr old original parts is much better than “perfect”, IMO.

since when you need a back seat to get any action in a car? :rofl

I will respectfully pass on the pic !:lol

Thanks Sam.. Re: the windshield - I might as with the 45 yr old tinting on mine I do see minor de-lamination that I'm hoping the chrome will cover... I agree with the NCRS route position as it can make ya go nuts and won't help my ADD.... A survivor off the factory floor would only pull mid 60 points some say. To that point I'm looking at going to Knock Off Wheels @$2K per set versus originals at ~$8k......

While mine's a vert - VA is still nice to have and there is a new setup that is electronic controlled versus vacuum for $1,275 coming out in August...

Enjoy the ride Sam! and remember that an old vette beats the crap out of a new BMW any day! :cheers
