On the way home last night I pull up to a stop light, same as awlays. No warning signs or indications and no I was not "getting on it".....

NO GEARS??? I release the clutch nothing..look to make sure rpms...move 1st to 2nd to thrid...back to first release clutch NOTHING....Reverse, 1st, 2nd no matter what NOTHING...

After a few seconds of sheer panic and a couple of honks from un-friendly motorist, I push the car off the road into a parking lot. Go to where the problem occured an a tremendous amount of fluid is on the concrete? I can also smell something, not sure what. I think it is tranny fluid. Looks like somone opened a gallon up and dumped it, there was a lot.

After a few calls and a tow truck, that did a great job, I finally made it home. Now the fun begins...I'll keep you all informed. Anyone know of anything similar???

Sounds Bad

Racer X,

This don't sound good at all.
Please let us know what you find out happened.
That would really be a bad deal if you were out in the "boonies".

UMMMMMM NOW IM NERVOUS, YOUR ONLY 25 AWAY FROM MY VIN, HELLO WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THE TRANNIES GUYS SOMMEONE THIS ISNT FUNNY ANYMORE......................................PLEASE GTJOEY 1314 I HOPE :thumbsup

This is the infamous (non heat treated) flange bolts/washers I assume?

Just what we don't want to read. Sorry to hear about it and please keep us all informed.

Thanks

N

Yep - sounds like the bolts let go - not a trans issue.

I tend to agree with you.

In some ways it's one of the worst possible faults as it leaves the driver completely stranded and feeling like a fool. I always feel really sorry to read about these faults.

Is this a 2005 issue; early 2006? I have a june 2006

it might be the end of your clutch. Strange the transfluid, though. When my clutch said adios, it was a dry death, with same symptoms....

Inside the clutchbox, pure pulverization....

If so, change, and step up. If your name indicates your driving style, you need reinforcement...

Stefan

Stefan, I think (and hope) that this is a transaxle half shaft retaining bolts issue rather than anything else..... no drive and fluid on the road would suggest that....

Has anyone got a picture of these they can post, so I can check my 2005 out. Dont really know what I'm looking for?

Thanks Guys

I'm nervous, my car is 5 away from yours and has 8600 mi. Hopefully it will be an easy remedy. Best of luck. TI

axle bolts/transmission

This is not a good situation---can anyone provide the name and number of the contact person with Wixom or wherever on the VIN/transaxle number to verify whether the unti has the upgrade. Thanks to all of you for this info.

Got a call into freddy g, DONT PANIC YET AS THERE IS A REPLACEMENT BOLT KIT OUT NOW, IF YOU GO TO YOUR DEALER AND ASK THEM TO REPLACE THEM. NICELY :wink AS MOST KNOW THOUGH SOME ARE DRILLING TO MAKE A LOCK WIRE AND LOCTITE TO TRIPLE INSURE , SO ITS YOUR CALL,NICELY :thumbsup GTJOEY

Yes, thanks Joey. As I've said before why don't you guys who are worried take the car to the dealer and get 'er modified? and have the wheels etc checked too? It's a very easy fix

Because we don't have a dealer who has a clue

Here in Orlando, I have yet to find a dealer that has a clue about this. One senior tech I talked to assured me that the GT has a solid axle rearend and it cannot happen. I am not about to turn over these cars to that type guy. Ford needs to do something like a TSB and inform us which dealers are trained and equipped to do the work. :thumbsdow

Found this on Edmunds in TSB's for the Ford GT. Is this what we are talking about? ie. are these the bolts they need to replace?

Component Description:
3. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY Bulletin Number: 051013
Bulletin Date: JUN 2005

Vehicle: 2005 Ford GT
Summary:
TRANSAXLE OIL LEAK AT THE TRANSAXLE OUTPUT-TO-HALFSHAFT ATTACHING FLANGE. ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10017932 )

Sounds like it "Anybody got any PICTURES of these bolts" they can post please?

+1

If you are concerned, take your car to a dealer and they will replace under warranty.

Could not agree more. I hope to never have to push my car out of the way of an impatient hybrid driver sport'n a tude.

"sport'n a tude" :lol Excellent.

As an Englishman I could never have thought of that - perfect image, wonderful economy of words. Lovely!!
