To drive the car, or not to drive the car...

that is the question.

Have tomorrow off! Driving 3 hours to see good friends for the weekend. Do I take the "soccer van", or do I take the GT?

The road might not be "perfect". The weather might not be "perfect". But I am guessing that both will be damn close...! I might even get a rock chip or two.

The car has 5K miles on it. KB blower drive with conservative 2 5/8 pulley. It will probably get 15 mpg...

I have gone back and forth - thinking "should I save the car" (for the next guy). What a whacked concept! When I am lying in my hospital bed thinking "I should have driven the car that time..." nope, that's not for me.

I'm driving it.

Right answer!

Drive it!

Drive it, but try to keep your distance from the trucks and cars in front of you if you don't have a mask or 3M protection. It's a pain in the ass to fix the chips; I now have about five or six and am repairing them. I am ordering a mask, and driving mine more. I agree. Hang on to the car, and enjoy it!

:eek :eek :eek I'm reporting you to Al Gore and his merry loons for your irresponsible, voluntary decisions to both add to global warming - and contribute to unnecessary energy depletion. Driving that inefficient gas guzzler is just not acceptable, "P.C." behavior, Sir! SHAME! :willy :willy :willy

(Do I need to mention it ALSO appears you'll be enjoying yourself too much?)

EVERETTO ............. the saying that I live by is :banana DRIVE IT LIKE YA STOLE IT!:banana Enjoy it while ya can... Life is to short.

I'm taking off for the beach as I type this........3 hr's in the rain on the way back (9 hr's of cleaning):bored

I won't drive in the rain, but I'll drive the car every chance I get. Life is short; live it up while you can.

Chips are a fact of life unless protection is used. I chose a Speed Lingiere front end and mirror masks, as well as a windshield skin.

Which windsheild skin did you get. I did the clear bra gig on my track car and it has been great, so far nothing has got through. The windsheild however looks like I went through a sand storm.

I have had (as many here have) this struggle to make the decision. Every time I chose 'take the GT' I've not regretted it.

Unless the weather is forecast to be awful for the entire journey, take it. Enjoy it, it's what it's there for.

I kept the Murcielago too dry, too undriven whilst I had it - and very much regret it.

Drive it, don't save it for the next guy!

On the fuel consuption... how do you get 15mpg? I barely make 140 miles with a full tank.... MMMmm there must be a hole somewhere...

If youd dont mind me asking what car is funner to drive or even a comparo? I know the cars are not very comparable with the murci being more of a GT car.

To everetto its car, it was meant to be driven.

Thanks,
Nate

911Teo,

Could it be a problem with the pedal on the right going down to far to often? lol :thumbsup

Everett:
We'll get coffee Saturday morning. I just had my first oil change--went great--so I'm ready to rock. See ya.:biggrin

You can avoid many chips by just staying off the freeway. I have put about 60K miles on my BOSS 302 since completing a restoration on it in 95 and just about every chip came when driving on the freeway. Stick to the back roads when you can to limit damage. Ed

Nate, the GT is a far more 'pointable' car than the Murcielago - but both are quick, very quick. The Murcielago feels big and the acceleration is snappier somehow - the GT smoother more linear.

Driving the Lamborghini was like driving the Titanic from the pointed end.

In my view the GT is a lot more fun because it not a 'show off' car, it looks what it is, a Le Mans car and goes like one too. The Murcielago is more highly stressed and looks every inch the supercar. I'd choose the GT every time!

If I can survive my rock chip in the third week of owning my dream GTX1 anyone can....(I am in therapy though..)

Chips are a fact of life REGARDLESS of the "protection" used.

Murphy's law says there isn't a rock on the planet that doesn't have the ability to FIND and HIT - dead center - any part of a "protected" car where it's protection ISN'T!:lol

'Got protection on the front end? How does striking "boot" or the roof sound to yuh? How about the SIDE of the car (like MK2 GT's)?

IMHO, the windshield "protection" is the only one really 100% worth doing as it might be able to fend off the ONLY "chips" yuh can't really fix yourself.

But then again, I'm CHEAP!:rofl

Everetto lets run em! :cheers I am always up for a fun race! Drive it any chance you get!

I still haven't figured out how I have a chip on the top of both fenders. Happened on different trips, but really, where did they come from? And how do you fix a paint chip by yourself? I really hate to have the car repainted or even painted in that area?

Yes, why save it for someone else?

Irony is, if you do sell it, that person probably won't even take care of it as well as you did.

I take care of my cars (GT is my only exotic) but I also enjoy driving them.
