Thinking of a 2013 Raptor

Lots of Raptor owners here on the forum....Anyone care to comment on the "real world" fuel mileage and towing ability. I'm thinking of switching sides here and picking up a 2013 screw. I've been a life long fan of GM pickups (I've purchased close to a hundred of them over the years for my business and personal use) but I think they've really dropped the ball here by not even attempting to compete with the Raptor. Test drove it yesterday and fell in love. It wont be seeing much hard off road use so its clearly more than capable for my intentions. I am more interested to know how it will handle my car trailor and how thirsty it will be with or without a trailor as my foot is a real size 12..Also, anyone have a Rousch S/C installed and if so what is that review? My dealer has a Rousch kit in stock and I may try to work that into the deal.
Thanks in advance!

I drive 99% on pavement for commuting. Average 13 mpg with the 5.4L but I hear the 6.2L mileage is the same. It's a heavy vehicle but was amazing on the bumps & jumps the one time I went to the desert. It's like a motocross bike because rough terrain at high speed is like driving down the highway! I haven't towed with it but it's probably ok doing that. It's kind of like the GT - everywhere I go people give you the thumbs up or talk to you it about at the gas station. You don't see a lot of them.

Go to the other Raptor threads for more info.

Thanks Ed...I checked the back-threads but couldn't find any info addressing my concerns. Our Canadian gallon is larger so I guess I'll ramp your number up by 10% which puts it in line with my current 6.1 GM. I would like to hear about the S/C installation...from what I understand Ford will cover it with warranty with the 540 hp pulley but my dealer has the 590 hp pulley available and says it shouldn't be a concern. As far as the limited number of them goes, here in Alberta we are the oil-patch pick up capital of the planet. It's not unusual to see two or three Raptors stopped in line at any given stop light!I'll hit the Raptor Forum; there's no doubt lots of chatter there!...Rally in 125 days.... ;-)

I'm buying my second raptor in the fall. Don't think I will find a better pick up truck. Doing 11.2 avg on the 6.2. My tech says with a tune it could improve.
Only towed once and it was fine
You won't regret it

The same motor & trany are in the 250 super duty also. I pulled a 16' box trailer with the Raptor and it did a descent job.

13 mpg is what I get on the highway. It will get better if you go slower then 80. There are two main limitations of the truck. The first is the width, which makes driving on Colorado ledges a little too exciting for me, and some roads are just too narrow. The second limit is the payload capacity. The truck will pull any weight, but if you put a heavy trailer on the hitch it will squat and you'll probably be over the payload capacity.

I've got two, a 2010 6.2 extended cab and a 2013 crew cab. Both get about 13 to 14.5 mpg. The 2013 is much improved. In terms of towing you must add air bags or helper springs. The Fox shocks are simply too soft for any heavy loads. The motor, tranny, and chassis are all up to the task, just needs stiffer spring rates.

I can tell you in about a week. I ordered a 13 and it came in about 1 week ago. I am having the Roush package put on right now and a bunch of other cool stuff. I cant tell you a friend of mine is pulling a trailer today with a Gallardo in it and he is averaging 6mph. And to me a 1/2 ton is not meant for pulling a trailer very often. I have a F350 for that. A 1/2 ton with trailer+wind= white knuckle azz pucker time.

Have you compared the HP and torque of the 6.2 to the EB3.5? For towing, the EB is really the better engine. MUCH more low end torque. Also there is a reason the 6.2 is severely de rated in the super duty.

You may actually be happier with a top line trim truck with the EB3.5 and even an aftermarket tune than the 6.2 with a blower.

Thanks to all who have chimed in. My business partner purchased a EB3.5 a few months back and it is an incredible pickup... Lots of torque and outstanding fuel mileage. Honestly, it's simply the Raptor styling that has me lusting over it. I generally tow my trailor long distances with a GM diesel 1 ton from my company fleet however my current GM 1/2 ton 6.2 performs adequately for shorter trips ( it does get whipped aggressively to stay about 65 mph)....so if it was simply a towing issue I would be pursuing a diesel......if mileage was the primary concern it would a EB3.5 ....but since neither engine is available in the Raptor it looks like some compromises are in order. I do look forward to an update on the blower install for sure!

I was one of EBs biggest fans until it almost killed me twice on a 2 lane road. Exactly the reason I am getting a Raptor. The EB will be a good engine in year or so, but right now its too young.

Cobra, you did the same thing I did, I marked out all the sensible reasons why I shouldn't own a Raptor and went full speed ahead!

Raptors are not that common in CA. I see one around once a month. Most are bone stock. I saw one with a camper on the back!

PS I'm running zero offset Method standard double 17x8.5" wheels with 37" BFGs.

They are probably more common in Southern Cal, than Northern Cal.

It makes sense for the SoCal grid lock traffic - LOL!

Got mine in and so far I love it! The Roush kit is a must, it gives the truck the perfect power. I didn't do the exhaust so you cant even tell anything is done other than a little bit of blower whine.

Thanks for that...........did you step up to the 590 hp pulley set up or stay with the 540 rating as delivered by Rousch ?

They referred to it as the 590 package but I cant honestly tell you that. Ill ask the dealer. Whichever power level it is, its perfect. I wouldn't want anymore, or less. And the slight blower whine is just awesome.

This thing just rides and looks awesome.
