The Diffuser

I hope you have not added any power adders :) I'm sure most are not factory approved. Consider this friendly banter over a beer :)

The GT1 and GT3, as well as ALMS, cars are tuned to the tracks that they run on by varying the downforce applied by the rear wings. Rarely do they run on a track that will get their speeds over 200 mph. Yes, our machines utilize a compromise - as all designs must do, in order to achieve all the goals of the design. In our case, fuel efficiency also had to enter into the design equation, along with >200 mph, crash safety, tire wear, human comfort, state vehicle clearance and other requirements, etc.

I'm not saying that these concerns aren't applied to the race cars, but the formula mixture will be different. Larger and longer splitters and diffusers, and higher or lower wickerbills will change the vehicles aerodynamics - but I will leave these changes to people who know what the effect of each change will have or have the ability to test and confirm the results.

For most of us that drive the cars on the road (at safe & sane speeds), it probably won't make a difference, but for those who look to modify their vehicle dynamics for given competitive purposes, I would hope that a professional approach to the modifications has an engineering and scientific basis.

Agreed. Who can do this? Stillen? Robertson Racing?

If that was accurate why do GT cars not duplicate factory aeros? Because they are a compromise IMO.

GT race cars and GT street cars have different goals. A GT race car needs more down force at lower speeds. The GT road car was a balance of limiting drag and creating enough down force to make the car stable and obtain the 200 + MPH goal.
Yes , wings could be added and splitters changed , but drag would be increased and top speed reduced. So it really depends on what your intentions are ..:biggrin

Exactly

Good technical banter and Stormy and Ralphie are also on the mark.

Luke, I take no offense at your opinions. (I am an engineer as well).

If you are attending the rally in Texas with StormCat, Ralphie and me, perhaps we could all get to know eachother over a beer. We are a good group....and will not bite...

Hope to see you there!

Right on! I wish I could attend this year but prior commitments will preclude me from doing so. Certainly plan on going next year and looking forward to meeting many of you. I'll buy the first round!

Looking forward to it!!

That's what makes this Forum such a great place to meet new owners, express opinions and hopefully learn more about our cars.

Consider becoming a member sponsor of the site. It is very much worth the minor cost for upgrading. And now I surrender the floor to our moderator, Mr. Chip or Dave....

Definitely considering it. I didn't want to jump on board too fast because I have found myself getting kicked off of a couple other internet forums because of my lack of communication skills and ability to be a little sharp at times. Don't want to spend money to become a sponsoring member until I'm sure I'm understood and am not going to get the boot shortly thereafter. I have learned to minimize my postings on Fri evenings after having a couple of cold ones. That always leads to Sat morning regrets and hard feelings some where :)

"just say no to drunk posting":biggrin

LOL so true

I think you will find this an exceptional site watched by the actual Ford design team designers, engineers and assembly team to which we owe much credit. At Dave's Rally I in Detroit we got to see, meet and greet some of the team and it was spectacular. Ford really did not "know" the demographics of who would be buying this type of halo car. They had never offered a product so expensive. They were as happy to finally see who we were as we were to complement them on our zenith automobile. It was great fun as are all the rallys.
Do try to make it next year and look into the Forum sponsorship.

I am only passing along what I understand about the defusers. You may or may not agree but the information is offered with best intentions.

I can't imagine why would anyone want to add power.

Me neither :)

It's all good! Being a member of this site is certainly an asset to any person lucky enough to own such a fine piece of engineering. Hats off to the guys that had the vision and the balls to actually produce such a car. One wonders if those days are gone in the era in which we live today. I took what might have been my last drive of the year today. Snow and cold tomorrow which means sand and mag chloride goes down and the GT goes up until next May 1st. I'll be counting the days trust me.

Ha, protein skimmers in Vegas. That's a good one. Only an engineer drinking Shirley Temples would make such a thing up.

Nah...
The diffuser is there to insure that in the fall, when the roads are covered with colorful leaves, that you get a good leaf roostertail comming out of the back of the car.

Many of us were wondering the exact same thing back in 1970. :wink

why do I want to believe bigger is better. :confused

I'm just glad there is another late night drunk poster on the board..... I was developing a stigma :cheers and tired of seeing Frank on line every other night.....
