Just finished Saturday at the Texas Mile. I achieved my goal of breaking 200, (203 to be exact), running 93 octane pump gas. I have to leave tomorrow morning so I'll have to wait til next year to try it with race gas.

I only got 3 runs all day. I've never seen so many cars break in one day. Every time one broke on the track they had to shut the race down to clean it up. One guy lost a tire at over 160 and it took out his whole rear suspension. He crossed the timing lights on 3 wheels at 144. I understand he's undergoing emergency surgery to remove the seat from his ass:lol. Of course there was synthetic oil and brake fluid all over the track just at the braking area so it took over an hour to get the races going again. I was told they actually used a jet powered motorcycle to cook the oil off the track. That thing sounded awesome!

There were a lot of Vettes and Mustangs but only a couple of Vipers, none of which even got close to 200 that I heard of. There were several brand new Nissan GTR's (168 mph), a variety of Porsches and an assortment of hand built race cars. 160 registered racers total.

The other two A.R.T Twin Turbos didn't get a good run. Bernie's car cooked the clutch on it's first (and last) run which retired him for the weekend and the Tungsten one with the drag chute had tuning issues which caused them to back off before completing it's first run. They plan to run it again on Sunday and I'm sure it will post a big number.

Overall, except for the motorcycles, I didn't hear any big speeds posted today. I may have even been the fastest speed of the day which is not that impressive for this race. All the cars capable of posting a big speed broke. However, the lawnmower was proud of his 85 mph:lol.

Overall we had a good time but it got into the high 80's and the staging lanes were very slow. They need to cut down on the number of racers to speed things up.

I'll post some pics tomorrow night when I get home.

Congrats Keith, sounds like patience was the order of the day.
Thanks for the post & look forward to the pics. :thumbsup

:cheers

Good show, you made us proud. How where the track conditions regards debris such as rocks and small stones?

Great post. Anxiously awaiting the pics like everyone else. Congrats on breaking the 200mph barrier. :thumbsup Goal of mine someday. :cheers

I assume you ran the TT not the Whipple GT.

congrats!

there should be a few cars running this morning capable of breaking 230 mph. but the more power you produce the more likely mr. murphy will show up and lay down his law. so it will be interesting to see what happens today.

Good Show

GOOD SHOW Keith.:thumbsup

Congratulations on achieving your 200+ mph goal.:cheers

LIFE IS GOOD.:usa

First off congrats on achieving your goal...:cheers

There is something I do not understand, perhaps someone can enlighten me. Why is it that stock GTs with the OEM clutch can tolerate 200 plus mph under redline/near-redline RPM shifts, but not when power is enhanced via TT. Are clutch failures also evident with the Whippled cars?

It's all about torque Sam...

Some say stock clutch holds to ~ 750HP. After that the appear to be more prone to failure......

Thanks to Stillen and Spec as they make the replacements!

Congrats Keith. Did you give your co-pilot shot at it too?

think power not mph.

well, SW went 241 in his Supra

new record

Smooth track with lots of rocks. Never run there (or anywhere probably) without taping the hell out of your car. My tape looked like it had been shot with birdshot when I peeled it off but between it and the Clearbra, I don't think I have any damage. I was told it was still much better than Maxton by guys who had run there.

Correct. Always take your biggest gun when things get serious.:wink

Next March I'll load it up with race gas and up the boost. Where does the insanity end?:ack

Congrats Keith. Did you give your co-pilot shot at it too?

Since she had never driven the Twin in anger, I thought it best she sit this one out. I wanted to see how it handled and acted before turning her loose in it but now I feel confident she can handle it next time.

I guess that gives you something to shoot for next spring.:thumbsup

Come on Sam 200 MPH...I can't even get you to break 30 MPH on the Kart track. You just keep polishing that GT and let the big boys drive in the triple digits! :lol:lol:lol:lol

Congratulations, Keith! :cheers

Congratulations, Keith! :cheers

Hi Dave, I met your friend who flew in with the Cirrus. Nice guy. You should have come with him.

Better yet, next March bring your car. You can file your own flight plan.:lol

Yeah, you're right, I should have come. Dave is a prince of a fellow. He's working on a B-GT class entry for speed week at Bonneville next August. I'll try to make it down for the "Mile" in March.
