Just finished Saturday at the Texas Mile. I achieved my goal of breaking 200, (203 to be exact), running 93 octane pump gas. I have to leave tomorrow morning so I'll have to wait til next year to try it with race gas.
I only got 3 runs all day. I've never seen so many cars break in one day. Every time one broke on the track they had to shut the race down to clean it up. One guy lost a tire at over 160 and it took out his whole rear suspension. He crossed the timing lights on 3 wheels at 144. I understand he's undergoing emergency surgery to remove the seat from his ass:lol. Of course there was synthetic oil and brake fluid all over the track just at the braking area so it took over an hour to get the races going again. I was told they actually used a jet powered motorcycle to cook the oil off the track. That thing sounded awesome!
There were a lot of Vettes and Mustangs but only a couple of Vipers, none of which even got close to 200 that I heard of. There were several brand new Nissan GTR's (168 mph), a variety of Porsches and an assortment of hand built race cars. 160 registered racers total.
The other two A.R.T Twin Turbos didn't get a good run. Bernie's car cooked the clutch on it's first (and last) run which retired him for the weekend and the Tungsten one with the drag chute had tuning issues which caused them to back off before completing it's first run. They plan to run it again on Sunday and I'm sure it will post a big number.
Overall, except for the motorcycles, I didn't hear any big speeds posted today. I may have even been the fastest speed of the day which is not that impressive for this race. All the cars capable of posting a big speed broke. However, the lawnmower was proud of his 85 mph:lol.
Overall we had a good time but it got into the high 80's and the staging lanes were very slow. They need to cut down on the number of racers to speed things up.
I'll post some pics tomorrow night when I get home.
