The guy was just asking for help!
I don't see the need to be terse.

The problem with emails and any written word is the emotion placed on the written words is actually determined based on the mood of the reader at the time since the reader can't determine tone of voice and is not based on the intent of the sender. It is a common problem with short emails that get to an answer quickly, but the receiver is in a bad mood so the email is taken as being rude when in actually it is just being helpful. I used to see this everyday at work where my people would be chastised for an innocent email which was taken out of context by an irate receiver. Many people need a fluffy introduction to calm their bad mood before getting to the point. For example, the written letter you receive cancelling your insurance which can never be written well enough not to upset someone. It's just a fact of email conversations and any written communication. It's really up to the receiver to give the sender the benefit of the doubt and stand back and determine if the answer was helpful or not. Frank's answer was definitely helpful. I'll bet if these same words are read on another day, they would be interpreted differently. I have nothing to gain from defending Frank's email since I do not know Frank and have never met him and no animals were injured during this reply. LOL

You know, sometimes I get the distinct feeling that this forum is really only for a select group of "regulars", who know each other through regular attendance at GT events, or have been on this forum for years, etc. (or perhaps thats just how a vocal faction of the community makes one feel). Consider the possibility that when you reply to somebody, they have no idea who you are, or how your sense of humor functions. Granted, it sounds like you really don't care if you come off to others as an impatient and gruff.

Hey, Dr. Frank's response was 'mellow' - almost 'cordial' in your case. Usually he just says, "Do a search".

I'm sorry you get that vibe. I hope that isn't a common perception. Since I joined in 2006, I've always found the forum to be welcoming even though I haven't attended functions with any regularity. I rarely spend time on other boards because many of them are juvenile, rude and outright hostile to new members.

I understand your observations about Frank's post (and the same criticism can be fairly leveled at some of mine), but I would give those who post the benefit of the doubt concerning their good intentions. When read that way, the forum is much more enjoyable. I get your point though. The informal way we communicate on the internet certainly has the appearance sometimes that none of us have any social skills at all.
Come to the rally ! You will be glad you did! A wonderful group!
Really what is different about this forum is, that quite a large number of us who know or have met at the various rallies .So we can tend to be a bit informal. I’d like to think that we are a (relatively speaking) a small forum of people who are familiar with each other, who are aware of each others sense of humor or lack of it!

Ron is right about most posting here, but in EP's case he has posted often but few have ever met him or seen his car in the road.

I'll have you know my "clown" sneakers are the envy of Sarasota. They are about to go viral.

P.S. Sorry to all who don't know Dr. Frank for my "in" joke. Dr. Frank is a pathologist. :lol

P.P.S. I guess laughing at my own joke doesn't make it funny. :frown

P.P.P.S. Given the strange turns this thread has taken, the subject "Strange Electrical Problem" is somehow ironic.

If you look back through the posts, you will see that my first post on this thread was merely poking fun at Frank's response. I agree that it was nice of him to bother to answer the question, but with a back-handed sort of helpfulness. mmlcobra made a much more direct statement, though I agree with him.

Sinovac, please don't get me wrong- I do love this forum; it is the only forum that I bother to frequent anymore, because of the quality of people on here. I have received help several times, and have tried to give help when I can, as well. Sometimes though, I will post something, and then hear virtual crickets chirping as nobody responds. Maybe I have a unique gift for killing a thread. Whatever, I have thick enough skin that its no big deal. I just happened to agree with mmlcobra that Franks reply was a little cold and ungracious. As others have said, we all can agree that simple text can be perceived in many ways.

I really do have to try to make it to a Rally one of these days. I feel like I already know some of you, by your posts. I'll buy the first round.

Did you say something? :lol

Happens to me all the time. I like to think the sheer eloquence and profoundness of my post renders others speechless.
Besides, I'm a lawyer so I never mind having the last word.

I was at the Texas Rally participating in the Texas mile (first timer at that point and knew only a few) and left my must have to participate long sleeve shirt at the hotel. :frown From out of the blue up walks a unknown man (who I saw in the hotel lobby) taking his shirt off and handing it over to me so that I could make a couple of passes. So..............what a great group of forum members and everyone who already knows Frank...he will "literally" give you the shirt off his back :thumbsup Thanks again Doc!

Lets get back to his problem.. The owners manual states That the wipers will only work in fast speed with the front bonnet open.. That's not the problem,, jerky movement, and they come on with the headlights on,, sounds like a wiring short, , how can power be supplied to the wipers when the headlights are activated, got to be a cross link somewhere!!!

There is also a relay that connects the turnsignals and wipers. Look for the thread "Loss of wipers and turnsignals" about the relay and part number.

Cripes, are we all doctors or lawyers here? Sorry for the derailing of this thread. I hope his issue is already resolved. My own theories about his problem are the same ones that have already been mentioned.
