Stillen Fender Splash Guards

Jerry, you are my hero when it comes to garages. How sweet it is...........

Somelee, mine were installed by the GT Guys at the Rally. We looked at all the options but drilling new holes and came up with a combo of Black RTV silicone and the use of the original fender "buttons". I drove the car the next day at the rally through the mountains at a "good" pace and they worked perfect.
The only problem with the guards is they are very low and after lowering my car a little over an inch they (the splash guards) scrape on speed bumps. The cars clears the speed bumps fine.
I have also noticed that they do work quite well. After following a few other GTs through wet areas my GT still looked freshly washed, free of dirt/mud/debris and the other GTs did not.
If you plan on putting a lot of miles on your GT these guards will go a long way in saving your paint and keeping your car clean.

Steve
awesome thanks!
just wondering though...if the silicone is strong enough to hold through some speed bump scraping....how hard would it be to remove them if you wanted to replace them or take them off in the future? Does gasket remover do the trick without damaging the paint?

Back in my boat racing days I used silicone whenever a non-permanent adhesion was needed. Silicone will take sudden and harsh "jolts" but if slow and steady pressure is applied it will fail unlike rigid epoxy/resin style glues. This is how I would remove it if the time comes.

drag on fender splash guards

Anyone concerned on the 160 mph + drag of the fender splash guards? How about some wind tunnel test results?

Ed

PS Has anyone installed those metal springy things that let you know how close you are to a curb when parking?

Ed, no problemo with the drag, the spash guards are drafting the tires! I doubt if anyone would find a measurable difference. As far and the metal spring things I was looking for some at the auto store, but it seem it fell out of vogue since the 70s and are no longer sold. Too bad, I bet a GT with some spring things would get a lot of stares!
